Video: 2015 Makeup Favourites

My 2015 makeup favourites are now up on YouTube!

Things I still need to learn with this platform:

  • lighting (holy heck, even with a ring light it’s too dark at night!)
  • image focus
  • condensing what I have to say!
  • using a microphone… there’s way too many ambient sounds happening

  1. Gurl! You are so stunning! ๐Ÿ˜ I do agree it was a bit dark but I loved the rest of the format – almost like I was sitting there with you and we were talking makeup. So many YT videos feel like slick ads rather than an actual, honest review. I’d rather see products that have really been used and loved. And you know I’m nail polish obsessed when the first thing I noticed in the video still was not your gorgeous makeup but “OoO, her nails are so pretty!!” LoL

    1. Yeah it’s kind of unbelievable just how much lighting you need for videos! I’ll need something to light up my background next time (I’m really quite frustrated with how dark it looked ๐Ÿ™ ). And lol re: the nail polish. I don’t actually do my nails very much, but I know people look for it in videos so I was like “I had better paint these!”. I’m so glad you enjoyed the format! I’ve got a lot to work towards on improving the quality, but one step at a time!

    1. I only noticed the clock ticking as I was editing and I was like omggggg! And there may have been sirens… Hoo boy. Thank you for your kind words though! And hooray for Bourjois! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Awww thanks! It’s kind of hard not to be hard on yourself (even if you’re new at something) cuz we’re constantly comparing ourselves to others aren’t we? Anyway – onwards and upwards! Eyeshadow is the Viseart palette I got at IMATS! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. This a great video!
I don’t know if it’s possible for you- but a lot of youtubers also do blog posts after their video has been up with the same content. You’re an awesome writer and I love reading your blog when I’m taking a break at work…It’s a little less subtle when I plug in my headphones to watch a video haha

    1. Hi Katelin! Yeah, I had thought about doing that, but right now it’s too much of a duplication of work. ๐Ÿ™ Aside from just filming a video, the editing portion takes a good two to three hours (which is wayyyyyy more than editing photos and writing a blog post). Unfortunately I don’t think that’s going to be feasible for me as I looked forward to doing certain videos instead of blog posts because I feel it suits the medium a bit more (like some tutorials and DEFINITELY empties). While this week has been pretty wonky for me (getting over sickness after coming back from vacation!), I will still be doing a minimum of four blog posts a week – the videos will be extra on top of the usual blog posts. I’m sorry the format doesn’t work as well for you, but I do really value your feedback – so thank you for saying something. ๐Ÿ™‚

Sidenote: I hadn’t actually done a favourites blog post since March, so I thought perhaps my blog post favourites weren’t as interesting to people, hence the video instead!

    1. The ring light is by Stellar Lighting and it’s the 18 inch diva light. I think I’ve got it sorted out for the next video I film… it’s a lot of trial and error that’s for sure!

You didn’t hear the clock ticking? Oh man, I could hear it so loudly in my headphones when I was editing… but we’re always way more critical of our own work aren’t we? Thank you for the feedback!
