Suva Beauty Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks (Review & Swatches)

Suva Beauty Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks

It feels like the liquid lipstick bandwagon is neverending! Although I think we’ve gotten to the point where brands acknowledge that while makeup lovers like longevity in their products, there’s a lot of us out there that are flat out sick of the dried paint sensation that a longwear liquid lipstick provides. Suva Beauty decided to launch their Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks with kissproof longevity with the comfort of a cream lipstick.

Suva Beauty initially launched the range with six shades, but they added an additional two with their most recent Saffron collection launch.

The shade names themselves seem to be based on dreams and the inner workings of the mind. With names like “The Unconscious”, “Dreamer”, and “Awakening”, I found the names really enticing and I like that they picked a theme to use for the launch.

The Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks come with your traditional long doe-foot applicator which works well for application. I generally prefer a somewhat smaller wand (like in a deluxe size sample) but this is really the only type you can get in a full size product.

In swatches, the colours are opaque in a single swipe. You will notice that they take slightly longer to dry down on the skin than most regular liquid lipsticks do.

Which is especially obvious in the shot above! They do eventually dry down completely, but I’d say it takes about 5-7 minutes to go completely dry.

Final Thoughts

The Suva Beauty Moisture Matte Liquid Lipstick formula is interesting, and it is slightly different than most liquid lipsticks. While the dry down does take longer than most liquid lipsticks that are on the market right now, I think this actually helps with the comfort of the liquid lipstick. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that these feel like a cream lipstick (which is really a bit far-reaching I think for a brand to say about a dry down liquid lipstick), but they are one of the most comfortable liquid lipstick I’ve put on my lips. There is a trade off for that comfort though – while they are mostly touchproof, I don’t find them to be completely resilient to pressure and you will find some of the lipstick coming off on your coffee cup or glass. It’s not a lot, but it’s worth mentioning. The longevity is excellent however – the slight transfer you may get from eating or drinking doesn’t diminish the fact that these wear for a very long time – I get easily 5-6 hours before I inevitably take my lipstick off. They also don’t feel like dried paint on your lips either – they have a bit of bend and give to them which feels really good.

The liquid lipsticks also smell amazing – like creamy mashmallows! The taste does disappear rather quickly on the lips, but it’s a lovely scent when you pull the product out of the tube for application.

All in all, these are a good buy from Suva Beauty. I feel like the colours and product opacity are fantastic, and I like the feel of the product on my lips even if it’s not completely transferproof.

Suva Beauty Hydra & FX Liners (Review & Swatches)

Suva Beauty Hydra & FX Liners

Suva Beauty‘s Hydra Liners – I feel like they’re one of those products in the indie beauty world that everyone talks about in hushed, reverent tones. I’d even venture a guess to say that they’re what Suva Beauty is most known for too. These little pots of beautiful, colourful glory are a water activated paint – they can be applied anywhere you like, but I use them predominantly as eyeliner.

I first played around with the shade Scrunchie last year when I picked it up at IMATS Toronto – I was so enamoured with that bright neon shade of it! So of course when it came to trying out more shades, I was more than excited since their colour range is really unique.

These three shades were recently released alongside their Block Party palette (full review video here) and I was immediately intrigued by the new colours as they seem made for each other. Interestingly, two of the shades are listed as Hydra FX and the other one is listed as Hydra Liner. I’m not sure what the difference is, as they both applied exactly the same.

The trick to using Suva Beauty‘s Hydra Liners is water. The pots themselves are a solid mass of dry paint and you can’t get any pigmentation off on your brush unless you add water to the paint cake. And it does have to be water – I’ve tried INGLOT’s Duraline in the past and it does absolutely nothing to the product! It doesn’t even liquefy it! I tend to drop a few water droplets into my pot and run my brush in there to loosen up the pigment. I like to get the pan fairly wet so that I get a nice amount of smooth liquid fluid on my brush in order to make application easier.

While I normally apply a Hydra Liner as a winged liner addition to my look (tutorial on that technique here!), this time I just wanted to just play around with them. I used the two blue shades (Tracksuit and Freezie) on a wet toothbrush and flicked them across my eye. I love the spackled paint look – it’s clearly more editorial than your normal every day makeup, but it’s a lot of fun to do. The two blues tones worked together to create a sort of water marbled effect on my eye. I then used Grape Soda to create my usual winged liner to add more interest to the look. Honestly, it was a lot of fun just playing around with these products – even if the end result isn’t “wearable”. (Sidenote: Grape Soda goes on the eyes a lot darker than the pan and swatch would suggest – I imagine it’s because I layered it a few times.)

One thing to be aware of in regards to the formula is that it feels a little bit differently than your usual liquid liner. It has a slightly thicker consistency so it might feel a bit tight/thick on your eye. It’s no detrimental to the product, but worth mentioning since not everyone might be aware of/expect that sensation. I’ve only worn these as shown in the photo above, so I have no idea how this wears over your entire lid (I really do need to give that a shot though!).

The colour selection is phenomenal, and a lot of their shades glow under UV lights! They’re one of the most and unique products I’ve tried in the last year and I love these additions to the shade range.

Swatch Sunday: Suva Beauty Saffron

Suva Beauty Saffron

Hot off the heels of Suva Beauty‘s Block Party palette launch, the branch has switched gears and gone for something deeply spicy and autumnal with their Saffron palette!

When I first saw the shades in the Saffron palette I gasped. A neutral palette with a solid red and some very deep warmer red-toned shades? Holy smokes was I ever into it!

Colour-wise, what makes this palette unique to me is the reds, and thankfully there’s not just one of them. Paprika is definitely the brightest and most exciting shade to me, but Cinnamon is basically a toned down version of it and Saffron is a shimmery take on the colour.

A video review will be forthcoming, but for now please enjoy the swatches!
