OPI Fall 2019 Collection – Scotland (Review & Swatches)

OPI Fall 2019 Scotland Collection

OPI‘s fall collection “Scotland” has launched, and I was super amped to see the shades in this collection because I’ve got a bit of an attachment to the country. It’s been a few years now, but when I visited Scotland I was taken aback by just how gorgeous the scenery was to me. We had driven up from England (Birmingham, to be precise) and I had just expected that Scotland would look identical to England since they’re attached to the same land mass.

Not so! My jaw practically fell to the floor when we crossed into Scotland from England. Everything was suddenly more beautiful. It’s hard to put into words, because it really doesn’t make sense – there is no great divide between the land of England and Scotland, but my lasting impression was that as soon as we drove into Scotland via the M6… the landscape was suddenly more luscious. I’ll never forget that – it’s a really special memory to me.

So when I hear OPI was launching a Scotland collection I was super into it. Not to mention that my paternal grandfather (who died before I was born) was born in Scotland just added to my desire to try out this collection.

The collection  is an interesting mix of shades – the first six lean heavily into the reds and oranges, popping in a dark green as well as deep, blackened purples.

The second half learn far more cool toned with a bunch of deeps blues and purples, as well as a few nudes to round out the collection.

OPI Fall 2019 Scotland Collection Swatches

OPI - A Little Guilt Under The Kilt
OPI – A Little Guilt Under The Kilt

A Little Guilt Under The Kilt is a luminescent jewel-toned red.

OPI - Red Heads Ahead
OPI – Red Heads Ahead

Red Heads Ahead is warm-toned red with a creme finish.

OPI - Suzi Needs A Loch-Smith
OPI – Suzi Needs A Loch-Smith

Suzi Needs A Loch-Smith is  a darkened orange. (Reminds me of pumpkins!)

OPI - Things Seen in Abergreen
OPI – Things I’ve Seen in Aber-green

Things I’ve Seen in Aber-Green is a SUPER deep dirty green. It comes across close to black, but not quite there.

OPI - Good Girls Gone Plaid
OPI – Good Girls Gone Plaid

Good Girls Gone Plaid is another super deep shade. This one is more plum, but it’s very deep, so the purple doesn’t show up as much unless it’s in REALLY bright lighting.

OPI - Boys Be Thistle-ing At Me
OPI – Boys Be Thistle-ing At Me

Boys Be Thistle-ing At Me is slightly like the previous shade, just a touch paler and with a metallic finish.

OPI - Rub-a-pub-pub
OPI – Rub-a-pub-pub

Oh wow did I ever love this shade! Rub-a-pub-pub is the PERFECT creme finish charcoal grey.

OPI - Nessie Plays Hide & Sea-k
OPI – Nessie Plays Hide & Sea-k

What’s a Scotland collection without a little poke at the Loch Ness monster? Nessie Plays Hide & Sea-k is a metallic finish deep teal with gold shimmers.

OPI - Grabs The Unicorn By The Horns
OPI – Grabs The Unicorn By The Horns

OPI Grabs The Unicorn By The Horns is a beautiful darkened teal, although I did find this one went on a bit more translucent than I had expected. I’d do three coats of this one to be safe.

OPI - Nice Set of Pipes
OPI – Nice Set of Pipes

Nice Set of Pipes is another “almost black” shade. There’s a hint of purple in the base, but it definitely comes across more vampy than I had expected.

OPI - You've Got That Glas-glow
OPI – You’ve Got That Glas-glow

I’m not sure I’ve ever put a nude on my nails, but I was SOLD as soon as I put You’ve Got That Glas-glow on my nails. Holy smokes is this ever a sophisticated look!

OPI - Edinburgh-er & Tatties
OPI – Edinburgh-er & Tatties

If you want a bit more of a warmer nude, grab Edinburgh-er & Tatties. There’s a bit of caramel kiss to this shade!

Final Thoughts

I was initially surprised at just how dark the OPI Scotland collection was… and this is primarily because I see Scotland as luscious and green, with twinges of plaid. However, given the season… this collection actually works out beautifully. OPI somehow manages to tie in the feeling of Scotland combined with the deeper tones of the autumn months. AND, there are so many shades in this collection that work *perfectly* for Halloween! The orange, the charcoal grey and the deeper plums are all perfect for this time of year! Heck, I even like the nudes, and that’s not something I thought I’d ever say about nail polish. I’m especially taken with Rub-a-pub-pub (wore it last week) and I’ve got Suzi Needs a Loch-Smith on my nails right now.

All summed up, I think the OPI Scotland collection is beautiful and oh so seasonally appropriate.

OPI Summer 2019 Collection – Summer Neons (Review & Swatches)

OPI Summer 2019: Summer Neons

Rainbows… and neon. I mean… before I even start typing up this post, you basically already know that I’m in love with this colour scheme that OPI has developed for their Summer 2019 collection!

OPI Summer 2019: Summer Neons
OPI Summer 2019: Summer Neons

With the Summer Neons collection, you’re getting the full rainbow spectrum (I’m classifying the pink as red really) and while they’re neon, there’s also a hint of softness to the shades which makes them very enticing.

OPI Summer 2019: Summer Neons
OPI Summer 2019: Summer Neons

As all the shades have a neon edge to them, they do require a little more layering than I usually have to do with OPI’s polishes. There’s a translucency to the base, but thankfully they do actually layer without any issues. For all of the nail swatch photos below I have three polish layers on without a base or top coat. In practice, I found I actually preferred to wear 4 or 5 layers of the polish (and it STILL layered nicely then) with a shiny top coat on top. The texture of the polishes is occasionally slightly matte, so adding the top coat bumped up the shine factor which is how I prefer to wear my polishes.

OPI - V.I.Pink Passes
OPI – V.I.Pink Passes

V.I.Pink Passes is a luminescent medium pink that definitely dries down a bit of a satin-matte finish.

OPI - Orange You A Rockstar
OPI – Orange You A Rockstar

Orange You A Rockstar is a bright shiny coral-orange – I absolutely LOVE this shade!

OPI - PUMP Up The Volume
OPI – PUMP Up The Volume

PUMP Up The Volume is a bright sunshine yellow that has a bit more sheerness to it. When I wore this for a full week I ended up putting five layers on to achieve complete opacity.

OPI - Dance Party Teal Dawn
OPI – Dance Party Teal Dawn

Dance Party Teal Dawn is another one with a bit more of a translucent base – so layering it is a must. The colour screams seafoam to me.

OPI - Music Is My Muse
OPI – Music Is My Muse

Music Is My Muse was very difficult to capture on camera because it’s so, so vibrant in real life and I feel like all of my camera settings were muting it down. This colour is BEAUTIFUL!

OPI - Positive Vibes Only
OPI – Positive Vibes Only

Positive Vibes Only which is a bright, vibrant purple.

Final Thoughts

The OPI Summer Neons collection is fulfilling my need for vibrant rainbow neons this summer. When I initially saw the collection online I just about gasped with shock because they were so, so beautiful. I do find they need to be layered quite a bit so that my nail bed doesn’t show through, but I’m happy to do it since it results in such a vibrant colour. It’s also really nice that they layer so easily without disturbing the layers underneath, so that makes layering a non-issue in my eyes (just a bit more time consuming is all).

My favourites are PUMP Up The Volume (I can’t get enough of yellow lately), Orange You A Rockstar, and  Positive Vibes Only. Which do you like the most?

The OPI Summer Neons can be purchased on nailpolishcanada.com for $10.99 CAD each.

OPI Spring 2019 Collection – Tokyo (Review & Swatches)

OPI Tokyo Collection

I’ve come a long way from my bitten, short nails of days gone by… I used to completely ignore nail polish because I “just didn’t have the nails for it”. Well, all of that has seriously changed in the last few years and I’m here to present you (rather humbly, as I don’t profess to be a nail blogger by trade) OPI‘s latest collection: Tokyo for Spring 2019. Not only do I have decent nails now (not so much the cuticles though…), but I actually get excited for nail polish launches as well!

OPI Tokyo Collection - Part 1
OPI Tokyo Collection – Part 1

With the Tokyo collection, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (co-founder and brand ambassador for OPI) decided to revisit the 80s and 90s – utilizing pop colours with a modern twist.

OPI Tokyo Collection - Part 2
OPI Tokyo Collection – Part 2

A lot of the collection leans quite pink and mauve, but for me it’s the vibrant teal, turquoise and pale green shades that really get me excited.

OPI Tokyo Collection Swatches

All nail swatches are two coats with no base or top coat.

OPI - Kanpai OPI!
OPI – Kanpai OPI!

Kanpai OPI is listed as periwinkle blue with grey, but in person I see more purple than blue personally. Either way, this is one of my favourite shades in the collection – I’ve got it on right now and it’s lovely to wear!

OPI - Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san
OPI – Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san

Another favourite! Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san is the more blue leaning shade out of the two turquoise-esque shades in this collection (they call it an emerald, but it’d need to be a LOT more green for me to call it an emerald!). I wore it for a whole week and never got tired of the shade – it’s glorious!

OPI - Rice Rice Baby
OPI – Rice Rice Baby

Rice Rice Baby is a gorgeous pinky-mauve.

OPI - I'm On A Sushi Roll
OPI – I’m On A Sushi Roll

I’m On A Sushi Roll is the more green leaning turquoise (compared to Suzi-san Climbs Fuji-san). Beautiful shade!

OPI - Tempura-ture is Rising!
OPI – Tempura-ture is Rising!

Tempura-ture is Rising! is a fun vibrant orange.

OPI - Samurai Breaks A Nail
OPI – Samurai Breaks a Nail

Samurai Breaks a Nail is wild – it’s like a semi-translucent shimmer finish with a reddish-purple hue.

OPI - How Does Your Zen Garden Grow?
OPI – How Does Your Zen Garden Grow?

How Does Your Zen Garden Grow? is a lovely paled out spring green shade.

OPI - Another Ramen-tic Evening
OPI – Another Ramen-tic Evening

Another pink! Another Ramen-tic Evening is a pale rose shade.

OPI - All Your Dreams In Vending Machines
OPI – All Your Dreams In Vending Machines

All Your Dreams in Vending Machines is similar to Samura Breaks a Nail – it has kind of a translucent edge to it. (This one also has the *best* name! haha)

OPI - Chopstix and Stones
OPI – Chopstix and Stones

Chopstix and Stones is a deep sapphire.

OPI - Arigato From Tokyo
OPI – Arigato from Tokyo

Pink leaning… purple! Arigato from Tokyo is a lovely shade so perfect for the spring.

OPI - Hurry-juku Get This Color!
OPI – Hurry-juku Get This Color!

And lastly – Hurry-juku Get This Color! is a deep beer-pink shade.

Final Thoughts

I love these! I’m personally more drawn to the cream finishes, which is what the bulk of this collection is made up of. The translucent shimmer finishes are fun, but not quite up my alley, you know? No matter the finish, I was impressed that two coats was all I needed for each and every shade. I was worried the paler colours would be patchy to apply, but they weren’t at all. My favourites are Kanpai OPI!, I’m On A Sushi Roll, Suzi-San Climbs Fuji-San and Tempura-ture is Rising! (And heck, the names are super cute too.)

The Tokyo collection is a lot of fun with shades for everyone I think! It covers your basic spring pinks in a variety of shades, but it also leans into the more vibrant colourful shades that I always find myself more drawn to as well.

The OPI Tokyo collection can be purchased at ulta.com for $10.50 USD each or nailpolishcanada.com for $10.99 CAD each.

What I Bought This Month – May 2016

Another month passes, and another crop of beauty products ends up in my collection!

Laura Geller trio (free - gift)
Laura Geller trio (free – gift)

A while ago, my friend Sara sent me a trio of items from Laura Geller because she knew I was lusting over the Guava blush. That same trio was also for sale with the shade Plumberry  alongside a different lip gloss and a different shade of Spackle. Natalie was at Nordstrom Rack in the US telling me about all of these deals and I demanded she pick one up for me! I was supposed to pay her for it but she keeps insisting it’s a present! <3 Those vivid swirl blushes though… holy heck man. So freaking gorgeous.

Mary Kay Into The Garden products (free - swap)
Mary Kay Into The Garden products (free – swap)

Next up are some swap items that a bunch of us Canadian Beauty Bloggers did the night before Gen Beauty! I really, really love the scent that Mary Kay used in their “Into The Garden” spring collection, so I snapped up the foot scrub, the fizzy foot balls (which I really just use as a bath bomb) and the soaps all in the same scent!

OPI - Is This Star Taken & Super Star Status (free - swap)
OPI – Is This Star Taken & Super Star Status (free – swap)

My love for silver glitter polish with rainbow holographic bits knows no bounds (they’re my year round toe nailpolish colour of choice) and no one wanted these, so now they’re mine! 😀

The Body Shop - assorted (free - swap)
The Body Shop – assorted (free – swap)

I’m also eternally in love with The Body Shop‘s different shower gels and creams and it seems us bloggers have far too much of them! So I got a few varied products in Satsuma, Shea Butter and Coconut!

I also snagged some minis of the Frosted Plum scent which I hadn’t gotten around to picking up during the holidays. I love these little ones for travel.

Too Faced Love palette (free - swap)

Too Faced Love palette (free - swap)
Too Faced Love palette (free – swap)

I know the Too Faced Love palette doesn’t really have great reviews, but since I’ve become quite the collector of Too Faced products, I wanted this one regardless (there’s a reason why I didn’t spend my own money on it though…). I’ve photographed and swatched it for an upcoming Swatch Sunday and holy heck guys… so much shimmer. Almost too much really. This palette is definitely one of my least favourites by the brand… but hey, every brand has their dud product!

Biore - Baking Sodar Pore Cleanser (free - swap)
Biore – Baking Soda Pore Cleanser (free – swap)

I always come out of these swaps with an incredible amount of body products and face cleaners. No one wanted the Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser, so it came home with me. Since I don’t have skin that reacts to hardly anything at all, I can pretty much gobble up all the cleansers and creams that don’t work for other people!

Too Faced - Born this Way foundation in Porcelain (free - gift)
Too Faced – Born this Way foundation in Porcelain (free – gift)

My friend Natalie had received this Too Faced Born This Way foundation in a shade that didn’t work for her (Porcelain) so she offered to give it to me. I was SO excited – I had never used this foundation at the time and I kept hearing everyone rave about it. And now that I’ve use it, I get the hype! I also posted a full review of this foundation this past month, and you can check that out here.

Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in LA Sunset (free - gift)
Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in LA Sunset (free – gift)

Another gift from a friend! This time Zoe mailed me the Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in the shade LA Sunset. Like most bloggers, we all get to review a ton of things, and while we may like the formula, we often acknowledge that a particular shade isn’t quite for us. Zoe felt this was more a “me” shade (doesn’t hurt that I was cooing over it!) and sent it on over. I wore it this past week and loved the crap out of it. You really cannot go wrong with these Smashbox lipsticks – the formula is so comfortable and the shades are beautiful!

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Snapdragon ($41 CAD)
BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Snapdragon ($41 CAD)

And finally, the one item I actually ended up buying this month… the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Snapdragon. I was so excited by this blush that I actually already got my review of it up last week! Snapdragon is the kind of coral shade that I want on my cheeks all summer long. Love, love, love!

Of course… Gen Beauty also happened in May! So if you’d like to see what I also picked up there, you can see that in this video:
