Skincare Saturday: What’s In My Shower Right Now

Taking a look at what's in my shower

Last weekend I showed you what’s on the counters and in my medicine cabinets in my bathrooms, and this week I thought I’d show you what I’m actually using right now on the daily in my shower!

Being a beauty blogger means that, above anything else, skincare is the thing that PR companies try to send you the most. As a result, it can mean having a huge backlog of items you want to get through, which is usually held up by the fact that we’re always in the midst of trying something out in order to review it. This is one of those rare occasions where I’ve turned down enough skincare over the last few months so that I can play catch up and finish up some products that were already in my stash just waiting to get used up! Because honestly, finishing up a product is really very, very satisfying!

Hair care and scrub
Hair care and scrub

Starting you off with some hair stuff, I’ve got the Gliss Hair Repair Extra Volume shampoo* and conditioner*. While this is supposed to give me more volume, my hair is so stupidly long right now that I don’t notice much of an impact. That being said, this is a perfectly serviceable set of shampoo and conditioner and I have enjoyed using them quite a bit. I did use up the Gliss Hair Repair with Liquid Keratin* set previously though, and if I had to choose between the two, I’d definitely opt for the Liquid Keratin one instead (comes in a black bottle with gold writing) as that one worked absolute wonders on my hair.

About once a week I’ll do a hair mask and lately I’ve been using the Phyto Phytoelixir Intense Nutrition Mask*. It’s intended for ultra dry hair, which isn’t necessarily me, but I do like the infusion of nutrients into my hair once a week since I am a daily hair washer.

And since it sits nicely on the hair mask, I’ve got a body scrub over on this side of the shower as well. As with the hair mask, about once a week I’ll use a body scrub and I’ve been working my way through the BVSpa Sugar Scrub in Pink Grapefruit*. Great scent and helps to slough off any dead skin.

Shower caddy holding all my shower essentials!
Shower caddy holding all my shower essentials!

The bottom half of the shower caddy is my section (David’s area is above since he’s taller) and I’ve got it stuffed with the products I use most in the shower. (Not pictured, a bar of Mary Kay Into The Garden soap* that’s lounging on the corner of the tub.)

I’m a bit fussy with shaving, so I’ve got a few items in here for that purpose. I prefer to shave my legs with the Schick Intuition Razor just because it’s SO EASY. I started using this razor in my 20s because my friend Alison tried it out and loved it, so I hopped on the bandwagon. Not having to lather up my legs with shaving cream before shaving them is glorious. The layer around the razor acts as the shaving cream and saves me so much time in the mornings. You will notice that you go through these a bit quickly and they are more expensive than using a regular razor with shaving cream, but for me the time savings is huge. That being said, I hate how the Intuition razor feels on my underarms (makes them itchy for whatever reason), so I stick to my Gillette Venus shaving gel (Violet Swirl here) and a Gillette Venus Razor for those areas. (Also great for the bikini line area and anywhere else downunder.) Since I am a natural blonde (yes, it’s true – I don’t dye my hair), I don’t actually have to shave all that often – maybe once a week for my legs and twice for my underarms.

Shaving details aside, I’ve got two face washes in here: the MyChelle Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser* and Marcelle Hydra-C Daily Radiance Scrub. The MyChelle pumpkin cleanser is to die for – it smells like a pumpkin spice latte in a face wash and I *love* using it in the fall! The Marcelle scrub is one I’ll use once a week on my face and sadly it does not smell like oranges – which is what I had been expecting from the tube! It’s an okay scrub, but I feel like it could use a lot more scrubby particles in the formula.

I’ve left my favourite till last: the Lush It’s Raining Men shower gel. Of all the shower gels I have tried in my life, this is hands down my absolute favourite scent. It’s a honey-caramel scent explosion in your nose! It leaves my skin feeling soft and wonderfully scented with those honey and caramel tones. My husband actually bought this bottle for me last year for Christmas and I’m only just now getting to use it (see, I told you the backlog of trying out products is intense) and I could not be happier. Love, love, love!

So that’s everything that’s in my current shower rotation – hope you liked seeing this slice of my daily life!

Skincare Saturday: Lush Halloween

Lush Halloween

Nothing excites me more in skincare than a Halloween collection by Lush! Every year they expand their range of products and I get giddy just thinking about it – the Halloweeny bubble bars, the brightly coloured bath bombs… hell, even the soaps get me excited (yes, really!)!

Lush Halloween - Pumpkin Bath Bomb

A Lushoween staple, the Pumpkin Bath Bomb never disappoints!

Drop this in your bath and it’ll spin and fizz – colouring the water a bright orange shade that’s perfect for getting in the Halloween spirit!

Just a heads up though – Lush lists this on their site as smelling like “spicy-sweet pumpkin pie perfume full of exotic pimento, sweet vanilla and cozy, warming cinnamon”, and it really, *really* does not smell like that. I ain’t mad about it, but the Pumpkin Bath Bomb is definitely citrus scented and will make you feel like you’re surrounded by orange trees. I’m a huge fan of citrus, so I loved it!

Lush Halloween - Pink Pumpkin Bubble Bar

If you’d rather foam up your bath, check out the Pink Pumpkin Bubble Bar! Break off a chunk (you don’t have to use the whole thing in one go) and crumble it under the tap as you pour your bath. It’ll turn your bathwater a bright pink with white bubbles and a few of the little flakes will float around on the surface of the water (if you can manage to see through all the foam!). This one has more of a floral scent with notes of geranium, bergamot and jasmine.

Lush Halloween - Magic Wand Soap
Lush Halloween – Magic Wand Soap

I know soap usually leaves people pretty bored, but lately I’ve been ignoring my shower gels in favour of bar soap! A few years ago I used to feel that Lush‘s soaps disappeared a bit too quickly, however something’s changed because I’ve more recently found my Lush soaps outlasting some of my other bar soaps! The Magic Wand soap is labelled as a pomegranate scented soap, but I mostly just get a sweet but fruity smell with no real discernible particular fruit scent out of it.

Lush Halloween - Bewitched Bubble Bar
Lush Halloween – Bewitched Bubble Bar

The only product I haven’t had an opportunity to use because I just can’t bring myself to try it out yet is the Bewitched bubble bar. And can you blame me??? It’s a black cat face!

Lush Halloween - Bewitched Bubble Bar with Kolme!
Lush Halloween – Bewitched Bubble Bar with Kolme!

I’ll probably save this one for the weekend right before Halloween so I can feel extra spoopy in the black water I’m expecting out of Bewitched! Of our two black cats, Kolme has the more yellow eyes, so I couldn’t resist trying to get a photo of her with the bubble bar. Although I love the smell of it (it’s berry scented), Kolme gave it a good few whacks with her paw after this shot was taken to let us know that perhaps the scent wasn’t entirely up her alley. 😉

One thing’s for sure, Lushoween did not disappoint me! Rae of The Notice recently reviewed this collection as well, and while I always love her commentary on products, she made a really good point about Lush that I need to repeat because it’s something that holds so true:

The best thing about covering a Lush collection is that it’s so. Damn. Easy. It usually takes me 1-4 months to turn around a review, but with Lush, I can get it done in a day.

Why? Because, for the most part, their products are just variations on a concept. If you love their bubble bars, you’re going to love ALL their bubble bars, provided that you like each scent. If you love their bath bombs, you’re going to love ALL their bath bombs, with varying degrees of initial squee.

I read those words and realized just how accurate of a statement that is – Lush is never going to let me down – it’s just up to me to pick the scents I want to use by them! So rest assured that if you’re buying Lush, you’re getting quality products every single time.

Let me know if you’re picking up anything from Lush’s Halloween launch! Although I reviewed four in this post, there’s a heck of a lot more products in the collection!

Skincare Saturday: LUSH Cosmetics Easter 2017 Collection

With Easter around the corner, Lush has released their seasonal themed collection and, as per usual,  it’s adorable!

Lush Bath Bomb in Chick 'n' Mix

The very first item I grabbed for was this adorable bath bomb called Chick ‘n’ Mix!

Imagine my surprise when I pulled out the bath bomb and it fell apart in my hands! It’s a three piece item!

The outer shells of the chick open up to reveal a tiny little baby bunny inside! (I 100% squealed when I saw this by the way!)

Since the bath bomb is so enormous, I opted to use it across two baths. The first one I used the bottom blue half alongside the baby bunny. As per usual, any bath involving a Lush bath bomb is such a pleasure. This one leans citrus, but there’s a powdery scent to it as well.

Lush Lip Scrub in Chocolate

Need to get your lips in tip top shape? Try out the Lush Lip Scrub in Chocolate! It does have a predominantly chocolatey scent but there’s a lovely kick of orange to it! Think Terry’s Chocolate Orange (which is a personal favourite treat of mine). LOVE!

Lush Shower Gel in Wash Behind Your Ears
Lush Shower Gel in Wash Behind Your Ears

Lush Shower Gels are always a must have in my shower… although the scent on the new Wash Behind Your Ears isn’t quite up my alley! The scent on this one is jasmine, rose and neroli.

Lush Soap in Chocolate Easter Egg
Lush Soap in Chocolate Easter Egg

I’ve saved my absolute favourite for last – the Chocolate Easter Egg soap! Does anyone else still use bar soap? Because I freaking love it but I feel like almost everyone sticks to shower gels these days. So the Chocolate Easter Egg soap is billed as chocolate (makes sense lol), BUT I get a lot of honey sent in this one. It smells very, very similar to Honey I Washed the Kids soap or the It’s Raining Men shower gel – which is VERY exciting for me because that is my absolute favourite scent that Lush makes.

Let me know if you’re going to be picking up anything from the Lush Easter collection!

Skincare Saturday: Lush 2017 Valentine’s Day

Lush always knows how to come through with their seasonal collections – their currently released Valentine’s Day one is enormous!

Lush Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb
Lush Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb

The first item I immediately tried out was the Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb. I had just finished up my soccer game for the evening and wanted to take a relaxing bath.

The scent on this one is very rose-centric (not surprising though now is it??) with a hint of lemon oil.

Plop the Rose Bombshell in the bath tub and it explodes into a hot pink burbling ball. Wait for the whole bath bomb to dissolve and suddenly you’ll find yourself swimming in sweetly fragranced rose waters with *actual* yellow rose petals floating around you. Magical? Absolutely!

Lush Two Hearts Beating As One Bath Melt
Lush Two Hearts Beating As One Bath Melt

Want something a little less fussy for your bath? Check out the Two Hearts Beating As One Bath Melt! As the name would suggest, this bath melt is two interlocking pieces that will melt into your bath water leaving behind a hydrating and silky feeling to the water. This one is a mix of ylang ylang and rose oil which gives it a bit of a tangy punch to the scent.

Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar
Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar

If you’re looking to have a little more fun with your bath, go for my personal favourite, the Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar! Soft rainbow pastel colours covered in micro glitter is pretty much my idea of the best damn time ever – so pair that with some bath time bubbles and you’ve got a winner on your hands! Unicorn Horn has lavender, ylang ylang and neroli mixed together and you can definitely break up this bubble bar for use in multiple baths!

Lush Love Spell Massage Bar
Lush Love Spell Massage Bar

Once you’re all done with your bath, get your moisture on with a good rub down for you and/or your partner with the Love Spell Massage Bar. Quick tip for these: they pack a lot of oily punch, so you don’t need a ton of product. Swipe this on to the skin a few times and then start massaging your skin. Don’t do what I did many years ago – which is to say that I kept using the bar and turned my husband into quite the oil slick!

As far as I can see, every single item in the Lush Valentine’s Day collection is still available on Lush’s site! This is kind of a relief since their limited edition collections do tend to run out pretty fast – so if you see something you like, snatch it up quickly!
