BECCA Light Chaser Highlighters (Review & Swatches)

BECCA Light Chaser Highlighters

Ack! I had no idea the BECCA Light Chaser Highlighters were a limited edition item! These have been out for a few months and definitely caught my eye, but I thought they were a permanent product so put aside reviewing them until I got some of the more limited edition holiday items out of the way. I stand corrected – these are LE and they’re going FAST!

Sephora Canada doesn’t seem to have the Light Chaser Highlighters anymore, but Sephora USA still has two of the shades (and on sale for half off no less!) and BECCA’s own web site thankfully still has all six shades still available (also at half price!).

So what are these beauties? The Light Chaser Highlighters are BECCA‘s answer to the multi-colour highlighter craze. I’ve been raving on and on for a few years now about how much I love highlighter colours that are unique and different. I’m very much done with the champagne tones and icy white shades that are common (for my skintone). I want something more punchy, more vibrant and with some added colour in the mix. BECCA makes some of the absolute best highlighters on the market (Champagne Pop and Pearl are staples in my collection) so I was really happy to see them dip their toes in the multi-coloured highlighter game.

There are six shades in the collection, and I’ve got three of them featured in this post:

  • Champagne Dream flashes Bellini: a peach tint with hints of brighter peach
  • Rose Quartz flashes Seashell: A pale pink-purple iridescence
  • Pearl flashes Gold: Iridescent white with a strong gold output

Of the three I tried, Champagne Dream flashes Bellini has the least colour payoff and sheen… in pictures. On the skin it actually beams a heck of a lot stronger and you do see shifts of peach as you move your face around in the light. (Refer to my colour swatch above for an accurate portrayal of the colour.) That being said, I would definitely say this one has the least amount of light bounce back when compared to the other shades I tried.

Rose Quartz flashes Seashell has more of that “bounce back” I’m referring to. You can definitely see the light is reflecting off my cheekbone. This shade is beautiful, slightly subtle, and provides a gorgeous pinky-purple sheen to the cheekbones.

My favourite of the lot, Pearl flashes Gold knows how to reflect the light perfectly! It’s a pale yellow shade that really lights up the cheekbones.

Final Thoughts

I’m really sad that these are limited edition because I feel like they’re a beautiful addition to BECCA‘s range of products. Since the brand is so well known for their highlighters, it seems like such a shame to have these beautifully coloured ones be available only for a limited time.

Of the shades I tried, Pearl flashes Gold was definitely the most reflective, so if you’re looking for something bright – go for that shade. Champagne Dream flashes Bellini was a bit more subdued on me, but I feel like it would look beautiful (and more reflective) on a far deeper skin tone than me.

So all that being said, if you want these, get them now because they’re disappearing fast! To reiterate, Sephora Canada doesn’t seem to have them anymore but Sephora USA still has two of the shades (and on sale for half off no less!) and BECCA’s own web site thankfully still has all six shades still available (also at half price!).

BECCA Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Glosses (Review & Swatches)

BECCA Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Gloss

Inspired by raw gemstones melted into liquid form, BECCA Cosmetics created the Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Glosses and unleashed them on the makeup world!

BECCA Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Gloss

While the term lip topper basically surfaced out of YouTube (and I really hate that term to be honest), these are really just a lip gloss. Suspended within the lip gloss formula are a kaleidoscope of pearls that really do reflect the idea of melted gemstones. Each shade has a tinted base with a more dominant colour reflect amongst the pearls.

The glosses come with your standard doe-foot applicator, but I do find it doesn’t actually pull enough product from the tube as I had to dip multiple times to get full opaque coverage on my lips. If, however, you are using these as a spot highlighter in the center of your lips, you’ll definitely pull enough product out in a single pull. The tubes kind of look like test tubes from science class to me (love it!) and contain a healthy 5g/0.17oz of product.

  • Rose Quartz x Seashell has a pale, translucent pink base with flecks of brighter, silvery pink.
  • Topaz x Gilt is basically MAC’s blue-brown pigment! The base is a toffee brown shade and the glitter flecks are blue, sometimes green.

These claim to have a coconut and vanilla scent… a claim that completely baffled me as I smell none of those things. To me, these are basically an unscented gloss that still retains some of that older lipstick smell. Not like the product has gone off, but more like it was never scented in the first place and still has some of that manufactured scent. It’s not intrusive for wear though!

On the lips, Rose Quartz x Seashell comes off as a more milky pink.

Topaz x Gilt was easily my favourite out of the two shades I tried (there are six shades total in the collection). I love the look of the soft brown colour and the blue-green sparkle is really, really gorgeous.

In both shades, the sparkle is not really apparent from a distance (and you honestly can’t see it that much in the photos I’ve posted). I think it makes for an interesting illusion… from afar it looks like you’re wearing a regular gloss, but when you get up close you can see the facets of the coloured glitter (as you can see in my swatches) and it completely changes how you perceive the lip look!

Final Thoughts

The Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Glosses are fundamentally a gloss at their core, so you won’t find their longevity to be on par with a lipstick. Which is fine by me, but I often feel people have completely unrealistic expectations for a gloss so I wanted to put that out there. Reapplication was necessary around the two hour mark as the gloss would start to wear away and you’d be left with glitter particles on your lips. Although I didn’t find the glitter to feel gritty or obvious in texture on my lips, if you really smush your lips together you’ll be able to feel it.

Over the years I’ve kind of grown out of lip gloss just because it didn’t suit my every day life very well as I need something that wouldn’t move around on my lips at work. These surprised the heck out of me as the gloss stays put and doesn’t travel around my lips! Although some people may not be into these kinds of shades for the office, for me these work really well. If you’re looking for a fun gloss with a beautiful, unusual shimmer to it, then you’ve found it! Maybe even grab one of them for the holidays to add some sparkle and shine to your look!

The BECCA Liquid Crystal Lip Topper Glow Glosses are available on sephora.ca for $27 CAD each or on sephora.com for $22 USD each.

BECCA Sunlit Bronzers (Review & Swatches)

BECCA Sunlit Bronzers

Oh BECCA – you certainly know the way to my heart! They (relatively) recently launched their Sunlit Bronzer range that boasts five shades to suit every skintone.

BECCA Sunlit Bronzers
BECCA Sunlit Bronzers

BECCA indicates that these are neutral bronzers with a hint of shimmer. At first glance I was absolutely convinced that these were matte bronzers, so I was curious as to how the Shimmering Skin Perfector formula (which was made infamous by their highlighters) was going to work embedded in their bronzers. Turns out the shimmer is very, very subtle and not at all reflective like their highlighters. (Phew!)

The packaging, of course, mirrors their highlighters and I love that about BECCA – It’s a solid compact with a very different feel to everything else on the market. While their highlighters have a gunmetal, mirrored finish, these Sunlit Bronzers embody the essence of a bronzer and jazz it up by making the compact a deep bronze shade.

BECCA indicates that each of the five bronzers was inspired by an actual beach. And having just been to Bali, I was tickled pink to discover that Bali Sands was their palest shade. Capri Coast is the next level up and you can see it a few shades deeper than Bali Sands. What I also love in these swatches is that you can definitely see the hint of shimmer that it gives off on the skin. I need to point out that these are not flecks of glitter and they will not make you look like a shimmer bomb went off on your face. I don’t have the next three shades because they’d likely be too dark for my skin ton, but the one after Capri Coats is called Bronzed Bondi and, of course, NOW I WANT IT because I was just at Bondi Beach last month!

In these shots I’m wearing Capri Coast on my temples, the backs of my cheekbones and along my jawline (I have no blush or highlighter on yet so as to show off the bronzer properly). As I’ve got a very faint hint of tan (literally from Bali and Australia), Capri Coast is the perfect shade for me right now. It adds colour without being too much and it blends smoothly on top of my foundation.

I think the colour is flawless for me – it adds a hint of warmth but it doesn’t turn me orange. I’ve loved it so much since I started using it, that we’re going on two weeks now and I’m pretty sure we’re in a serious, committed relationship because I haven’t yet reached for another bronzer in my collection. I did try Bali Sands once, but it was a bit too pale for my me at the moment. It will, however, be the perfect shade for me throughout the winter months as I pale out.

If you’d like to see some of the deeper shades, definitely check out Nancy’s review of the full collection over on spiffykerms.com. You can see just how deep the shade range goes, and since she’s a bit darker than me, she can carry off the deeper shades much better. I especially love the red tones in the deepest shade – Maui Nights. So beautiful!

Final Thoughts

Do I love these? Yes. A hundred times yes! The BECCA Sunlit Bronzers are absolutely wonderful and I love that the range (to my eyes) appears to be deep enough that even the fairest person and the deepest person could wear at least one of these shades. I adore the textured pattern on the powder (don’t we all!) as well as the compact itself, but it really comes down to the product and I really do love it. The fact that I haven’t reached for another bronzer in two weeks says a lot. I love me some bronzer and I’m usually always switching it up, but if you look back on my recent videos – in the description box – it’s the only bronzer I’ve been consistently wearing!

The BECCA Sunlit Bronzers can be purchased on sephora.ca for $46 CAD each or on sephora.com for $38 USD each.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights (Reviews & Swatches)

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights
BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights

Alongside the BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection release, BECCA released a new addition to their highlighting range: the Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights
BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights

With the highlighter craze having no end in sight, the beauty world’s insatiable demand for more highlighters means we’re getting a lot more options to make us shine up to the heavens. And I, for one, hope this craze never ends!

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights

So far the Slimlights have been release in three shades that match their predecessors that are also available: Pearl, Champagne Pop and Topaz.

The Slimlights are a twist up tube highlighter that makes for quick and easy application.  I’ll be honest, the first time I tried this, I applied it straight from the tube onto my cheekbone and tried to blend it out with my finger. The shine and finish I was accustomed to with BECCA‘s highlighters was just not there and I was more than a little confused. How could my favourite highlighter brand let me down like this??

….and then I read the packaging and Sephora’s site. The Slimlights are intended to create added dimension in targeted areas – down the bridge of your nose, on your brow bone, the top of your lip and the inner corners of your eye. Suddenly this product made a heck of a lot more sense to me!

The Slimlights come with a sharpener in the base of the tube which you can pull out and use to sharpen the crease product if you so desire. Personally, I don’t see the point in that since I’m  not likely to use this as a liner.

Swatched out, you can see the Slimlights deliver a punch of pigment as well as a lovely sheen. I was especially impressed with Topaz because the bronze-gold coming off on that shade is beautiful! It’s not quite for my skintone, but it is a STUNNING shade.

BECCA Slimlight vs Pressed - Pearl & Champagne Pop
BECCA Slimlight vs Pressed – Pearl & Champagne Pop

Since I had pressed versions of both Pearl and Champagne Pop, I wanted to compare them for my own sake. Pearl is a dead ringer in both the Slimlight and Pressed formulas, but you can clearly see that Champagne Pop is a much different shade. The Champagne Pop Slimlight is more of a pale yellow-gold (it looks a lot like Moonstone I think, although I don’t own that shade), whereas the Pressed version has far more peach in it.

With my knowledge of how to wear these now intact, I found I preferred to wear the Slimlights on my eyes. Champagne Pop makes the most beautiful inner corner highlight. I like that the shade is slightly paler than the pressed version because I think it works well on me. I also liked adding a bit of Pearl to underside of my brow to add a hint of shine. I did find Pearl was a bit more difficult to blend out than Champagne Pop, but nothing that would deter me from using the products.

Final Thoughts

If there’s one thing I can highlight about this product is the fact that it’s meant as a targeted highlight for smaller areas of your face. I remember reading the tear sheet I had after I’d used the product the first time (on my cheek) and I was like “well aren’t you dumb, Chelle!”.

After figuring out how to properly use the Slimlights, I am pleased to report that I love what they do. I have often struggled with inner corner highlights for my eyes because I feel like when I use a pencil brush to apply powder it goes freaking everywhere, including getting directly in my eye. With the Slimlight, I was able to target the inner corner directly and blend it out with my finger. It’s a small thing to be relieved about, but it definitely made me feel better about applying product there. Not to mention that it definitely felt quick, easy and foolproof! (Sidenote, I have tried Topaz on my eye as a lid colour on a whim, and I found it creased pretty quickly. So while the product says nothing about using it on your eyes, I thought I’d just give you the heads up that I tried it and it didn’t work out for me.)

Do I recommend these cheekbone highlighting? Absolutely not  – but they’re also not meant for it! Do I recommend these for specific highlighting needs on smaller areas of your face? 100% percent. My personal shade preference? Champagne Pop – but get the one that you feel would suit you best!

The BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimlights can be purchased on sephora.ca for $34 CAD each or on sephora.com for $28 USD each.
