Challenge Week: Urban Decay Afterdark

Urban Decay Afterdark

Finally! I’m finally getting my Urban Decay Afterdark Challenge Week up!

Urban Decay Afterdark

Let’s state the obvious: this is not a standalone palette. You’re going to have to bring in some other shades/palettes if you want to create a cohesive look. For these looks I did my best to stick to the palette without adding much else, but since there are no matte shades, I beg forgiveness from you guys because I had to pull in a crease shade and a matte brow bone highlight!

Urban Decay Afterdark Challenge Week Looks

I wasn’t really sure where to start with this palette, so I opted to start with… a lot. It turned out very sunset inspired!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork in the crease.
  2. Supersonic through the crease, layered pretty much on top of Cork.
  3. Sinful on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer corner.
  5. Alter on the inner corner.
  6. MAC Blanc type on the brow bone

On my lashes is Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: THEFACESHOP Water Cushion in Apricot Beige
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Cargo Mendocino
  • Lips: Bite Pepper

I really, REALLY like the mix of colours in this look. I put it together quickly because I was heading to work, so the look is a little unfinished in the end, but man do I ever love the way these colours look together!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the crease.
  2. Backdrop through the crease.
  3. Lounge on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer half of the lid.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

On my lashes is Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Maybelline Dream Velvet in 10 Porcelain Ivory
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bitter Sweet
  • Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Blue Ice
  • Lips: Urban Decay Ex-Girlfriend

ANOTHER solid colour mix! I’m also totally matchy-matchy because my shirt AND backdrop match the eyeshadow!

Eyes

  1. MAC Cork through the crease.
  2. Fringe through the crease.
  3. Backfire on the lid.
  4. Paralyzed on the outer half of the lid.
  5. Scene on the inner corner of the eye.
  6. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and tightlined my upper and lower waterlines with the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Blacquer. I coated my lashes with Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara and popped on a pair of Esqido false lashes (probably Lashlorette, but I didn’t write it down so not positive).

Face

  • Foundation: Too Faced Born This Way in Porcelain
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Urban Decay Bittersweet
  • Highlighter: Kat Von D Alchemist – Blue Saphyre
  • Lips: Clinique Crayola Chubby Stick in Mauvelous

This one was a bit of an experiment. The palette does have some shades that can be used to make a neutral look… but I still wanted some colour in there so I threw the pinky-purple in the crease. The end result is still very neutral though!

Eyes

  1. Backfire through the crease.
  2. Scene on the lid.
  3. Off Duty on the outer corner of the lid.
  4. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with MAC’s fluidline in Dipdown and coated my lashes with Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara.

Face

  • Foundation: Maybellime Dream Velvet in 10 Porcelain Ivory
  • Bronzer: The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01 Light Matte
  • Cheeks: Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach
  • Lips: Fresh lip balm in Rose

By the time I got to the fifth look in this Challenge Week I was seriously running out of ideas. So I tried to reverse the shades I would normally use in different areas and I think it turned out okay! (For example, I almost never put a red like that on the lid – I usually put in the crease. And vice versa for the purple!)

Eyes

  1. Druggie through the crease and used to line the lower lash line.
  2. Supersonic on the lid.
  3. Backfire in the outer corner.
  4. Scene on the inner corner.
  5. MAC Blanc Type on the brow bone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and applied Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara to my top and bottom lashes. I also lined my lower water line with MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua XL Pencil Liner in M-92.

Face

  • Foundation: MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD liquid in Y225
  • Bronzer: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
  • Blush: Stila Convertible in Twilight Rose
  • Highlighter: Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette – Ultra-Violet Amethyst
  • Lips: Tarte Color Drench in Happy

Let me know if you picked up this palette and what colour combinations you’ve come up with that you’ve loved!

If you want to snag it, the Urban Decay Afterdark palette is $59 CAD on sephora.ca and $49 USD on sephora.com.

What I Bought This Month: February 2017 Haul

Kat Von D Pastel Goth ($51 CAD)
Kat Von D Pastel Goth ($51 CAD)

Let’s kick right into by far the most exciting  item I picked up this month: the Kat Von D Pastel Goth palette!

Kat Von D Pastel Goth
Kat Von D Pastel Goth

You may have seen my swatches yesterday, and as of typing this I hasn’t yet put this palette on my eyes, but OH MAN am I ever excited to! I wasn’t originally keen on this palette because I didn’t like the idea of pastels – just a bit too blah, you know? Like it’s basically an unpigmented bright shade and I just wasn’t into it. But as I saw more and more swatches coming out on the net, I realized this was really just a brights palette with a slightly muted tinge to it. I would call these pastels at all really, and that makes me very, very happy! (They’re also all matte which is even more amazing!)

Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips ($12.99 CAD)
Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips ($12.99 CAD)

And now… with the exciting item out of the way… I picked up a pack of the Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips because I’d run out. I prefer the nose strips because I feel like they do a better job than the forehead ones. But I also swear they used to say “extra strength” on them and these don’t seem to indicate that. Hmmm.

Neutrogena Hydrating Wipes ($8.99 CAD)
Neutrogena Hydrating Wipes ($8.99 CAD)

I was also getting dangerouly low on my Neutrogena Hydrating wipes, so I grabbed another package because they went on sale. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I have no idea why these are SO EXPENSIVE (especially when you compare it to their regular wipes), so I always wait for a significant sale to pick these up. They’re my favourite ones EVER, but I’m still not okay with paying $14 for them!

So that’s it for February! Pretty small eh?

Swatch Sunday: Kat Von D Pastel Goth

Kat Von D Pastel Goth

I wasn’t going to pick up the Kat Von D Pastel Goth palette. I didn’t NEED it, you know? And I was kind of dealing with holiday 2016 makeup burnout so I figured I would save my pennies for another palette launch somewhere down the road.

But then I saw Christine from Temptalia’s makeup look using the Pastel Goth palette and I was SOLD.

Fundamentally, although this is blatantly called a pastel palette, I think you’re going to find that overall these aren’t really pastels. To me they’re slightly muted brights, but they are still in fact QUITE bright. And that’s what makes me happy – they’re solid matte brights with a slightly different tune.

I need to stress that this is a limited edition palette that already sold out through its first life cycle. It’s currently in stock on Sephora, but I have no idea how long it will last. If you want this, don’t wait too long to get it!

Skincare Saturday: Live Clean Spa Therapy

Live Clean Spa Therapy

I’m really hoping you guys don’t mind the overabundance of Live Clean products that have taken over my blog for skincare posts! Because, truth be told, I really, REALLY love their products and they keep knocking it out of the park with every new product I try! (And they’re actually affordable! All the items I’ve tried out so far in their lineup are around the $10 and under price point!)

Also, fun fact about these photos, our bathroom had JUST been recaulked which is such a relief since now I can take bathroom photos without grossing you out (oh the joys of past tenants not taking care of their tub in a rental unit!).

Anyway, on to the products, I don’t believe the Live Clean Spa Therapy items are new to the brand, but they are definitely new to me. And, as with all Live Clean products, the Spa Therapy range is plant derived and eco-friendly!

The Spa Therapy Soothing Dead Sea Salts are your traditional epsom and Dead Sea salts bath soak that help to soothe muscle aches and relax you. From a personal standpoint, I find these kinds of salts to be exact thing I want to throw in my bath after having a stressful workout. The overall scent on the soak is predominantly lemon (to my nose) with hints of lavender, eucalyptus and a very small hint of ginger.

The Live Clean Spa Therapy Moisturizing Foam Bath produces a TON of bubbles!
The Live Clean Spa Therapy Moisturizing Foam Bath produces a TON of bubbles!

My favourite of the two products though is definitely the Moisturizing Foam Bath. I have long complained about bubble baths not actually producing enough bubbles so it’s really, really nice when I encounter a product that delivers me plenty o bubbles! Like the bath soak above, this one does have lemon, lavender and eucalyptus, but the punch of ginger is a bit stronger in this one which makes it really revitalizing.

In general, I’m more of a bubble bath kind of person, but dang if that bath soak doesn’t feel wonderful after I’ve pushed myself to the limits during a tough weightlifting session! Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Live Clean Spa Therapy line!

The products featured in this post were sent to me for consideration.
