Challenge Week: Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar1

Let’s cut right to it: I *love* this palette. I loved the first Chocolate Bar palette, but I love this one just that slight bit more. It’s currently knocked out my other favourite neutral palettes and is firmly sitting in numero uno place as my most beloved. For me, it’s the combination of shades that this palette includes. From the super orangeness of Peanut Butter, to the deep darkness of Hot Fudge, to the intense glitteryness of Pink Sugar (which, by the way, I’m well aware that Pink Sugar is a seriously unloved shade by others, but I *love* it. It’s pressed glitter and you can use it however you want, which is something that is usually restricted to loose pigments.).

I created five looks with this palette. (If you’re looking for swatches, please see my previous Swatch Sunday post.) Let’s take a look!

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look1-1

Although this is a very warm palette, the first look I did was quite cool-toned.

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look1-2

Eyes

  1. Rum Raisin all over the lid.
  2. Puddin’ in the crease.
  3. Licorice to deepen the crease.
  4. Coconut Creme on the brow bone.
  5. Pink Sugar on the inner tear duct.

I lined the outer corner of my lower lash line with MAC‘s eye kohl in Phone Number and then tapped Puddin’ on top. On my lashes is Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Wet n Wild Pearlescent Pink
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Violet

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look2-1

This is where the Semi-Sweet palette really shines for me. I love the orangey-brown shades and how they all work together.

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look2-2

Eyes

  1. Bon Bon all over the lid.
  2. Peanut Butter through the top of the crease.
  3. Hot Fudge on the outer corner.
  4. Butter Pecan on the brow bone.

I used Hot Fudge to line my upper and lower lash lines. On my lashes is Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Gingerly
  • Highlighter: Too Faced Candlelight
  • Lips: Make Up For Ever 9N

As a side note, after I took these pictures, I decided that lightshade was just too bright for what I wanted to wear that day and I ended up swapping it for a matte red shade instead (MACKinky).

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Butter Pecan all over the lid.
  2. Mousse top of the crease
  3. Cocoa Chili in the outer corner.
  4. Butter Pecan on the brow bone.

To create the wing I used Tarte‘s Black gel liner and applied Too Faced Better Than Sexmascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Tarte Exposed
  • Highlighter: Too Faced Candlelight
  • Lips: Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look5-1

Never in my life would I think to pair bright red lips with blue eyeshadow, but I think it works! It was Valentine’s Day after all, so I had an excuse! 😉 I also really, really love howPeanut Butter looks in my crease. The orange tinge really changes up what would traditionally be a blue smoky-ish eye.

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look5-2

Eyes

I first applied NYX‘s Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean all over the lid and patted it in. Then:

  1. Peanut Butter through the top of the crease.
  2. Blueberry Swirl all over the lid.
  3. Hot Fudge in the outer corner and through the crease.
  4. Coconut Creme on the brow bone.
  5. Pink Sugar on the inner tear duct.

To line the lower lash line, I used Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner and then pattedBlueberry Swirl on the inner half and Hot Fudge on the outer half (on top of the liner).

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Highlighter: Too Faced Candlelight
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Ruby

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look4-1

This palette make it so easy to bust out a bright lip! And I really do like Pink Sugar – it’s subtle, but has a really nice way of sparkling up your eye look. AND the glitter won’t budge once it’s on your lids!

201502_toofaced_semi-sweetchocolatebar_look4-2

Eyes

  1. Coconut Creme all over the lid and brow bone.
  2. Truffled on the outer third of the lid.
  3. Pink Sugar all over the lid and on the inner tear duct.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanilla mixed together.
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle
  • Lips: MAC Relentlessly Red

The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette can be purchased from Sephora.ca for $59 CAD or TooFaced.com for $49 USD.

What’s On My Face – Volume 31

This should mostly be labelled a Makeup Geek look week, but there’s one Inglot look in the mix as well!

2015_02_09_look2-1

This is the look I wore on my birthday this past month. I usually opt for orange and red as they’re my favourite eyeshadow shades, but this year I added some orange glitter I got from Lit Cosmetics.

2015_02_09_look2-2

Eyes

  1. Inglot AMC Shine 15 all over the lid.
  2. Inglot Matte 382 on the outer corner.
  3. Makeup Geek Creme Brule through the top of the crease.
  4. Makeup Geek Bada Bing in the outer corner.
  5. Makeup Geek Vanilla Bean on the brow bone.

I used Tarte‘s Black gel liner to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes. On my lower lash line, I applied some Too Faced Glitter Glue and then taped on California Soul glitter from Lit Cosmetics.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Bobbi Brown Apricot

2015_02_09_look5-1

I’m really loving playing with reds even moreso lately! Someone at work called this a Valentine’s Day look and I suppose it kind of is… Although I kind of see this as more red than pink, but to each their own!

Challenge Week: Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette

201501_urbandecay_vice3

My mom was a sweetheart and picked up the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette for me for Christmas. This was the first Vice palette I’ve owned and the first I was ever really felt drawn to. I mean… just LOOK at it:

201411_wibtm_urbandecay_vice3palette2

Good god is that ever pretty! While this palette seems to be no longer available at Sephora, at the time of posting (January 23, 2015), it’s still available on urbandecay.com.  I’ve been so very tired of the trend of naked this, naked that, that this palette feels like I can finally get some damn oxygen amidst all the browns and neutrals. Oh sure, this palette has its fair share of neutrals, but that’s really helpful for blending out some of the brighter shades.

Anyway, enough yapping, on with the looks.

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look2-1

Okay so I know I just complained about too many neutrals, but this type of looking is probably the most flattering on me and the easiest one to pull off without thinking about it.

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look2-2

Eyes

  1. Angel on the lid.
  2. Defy on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Undone through the crease.
  4. Truth on the browbone.

I created the wing with Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes. I then applied a pair of Femme Fatale lashes in Catwalk with duo lash adhesive.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Tarte Park Avenue Princess
  • Blush: Elizabeth Mott Tints & Sass in Cherry

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look3-1

I was not expecting these colours to come out so bright but man am I ever happy they did. Some of the swatches for the green (Dragon) had looked rather unpigmented, but I had no trouble get really vibrant colour onto my lid!

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Dragon all over the lid.
  2. Heroine on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Undone through the crease.
  4. Bobby Dazzle and Truth on the browbone.

I then lined outer lower lash line with MAC‘s Phone Number eye pencil and dabbed someHeroine on top. I then applied Benefit‘s They’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Tarte Exposed

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look5-1

Favourite. My absolute FAVOURITE look that’s come out of this palette so far. Even my husband really liked it, so I’d say it’s an all ’round success!

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look5-2

Eyes

  1. Lucky on the inner half of the lid and heavily on the inner tearduct.
  2. Sonic on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Vanity through the crease.
  4. Bobby Dazzle and Truth on the browbone.

I finally learned how to freaking blend out my lower lash line properly, so there’s someVanity on the outer corner and Sonic on the inner half. I used Kat Von D‘s Tattoo Liner inTrooper to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes. There’s also a few individual lashes glued on as well. On my upper and lower waterline is Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Tarte Charisma
  • Lips: Revlon Papaya

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look1-1

I’m fiiiinally trying out a technique I’ve seen done for years on YouTube videos, but never got around to doing. You basically create an enormous half cat wing, then blend it out. While the photo came out pretty decently, I think I need to make it even larger next time and work with own eye shape more. When my eyes were fully open, it didn’t look as sharp as it does my eyes are closed (thank you very much hooded lids…).

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look1-2

Eyes

  1. I first created a huge wing with Tarte‘s black gel liner, but didn’t drag it all the way down to my lash line. I then patted Revolver on top of the liner and blended it towards the inside of my lid.
  2. Last Sin was then blended on the inner half of the lid and blended into Revolver.
  3. Bobby Dazzle was applied lightly to my brow bone.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 Light Vanilla and 52 Vanillamixed together
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Highlighter: MAC Silver Dusk
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Candy

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look4-1

The blue (Freeze) and purple (Vanity) were some of the weaker shades in this palette. The pigmentation just didn’t come off as strong as I would have liked. Maybe a white base would bring out some more of the impact of the colour.

201501_urbandecay_vice3_look4-2

Eyes

  1. Freeze on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Vanity on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Alchemy through the crease.
  4. Bobby Dazzle on the browbone.

I lightly lined my outer lower lash line with MAC Phone Number eye liner and patted Vanityon top.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle

This palette? Love it! It has enough vibrant shades to keep me entertained and yet enough boring neutrals to balance out any bright eye look. If you’re looking for a good mix of shades, or want to try playing with more vibrant shades, this is a pretty solid choice.

What’s On My Face – Volume 30

A lot more bright looks in this lot which I’m super happy about. If you notice an increase in quality of some of the pictures, it’s because I picked up an actual DSLR in December instead of using my old point and shoot camera. The reason I say “some of the pictures” is that on some days I unfortunately only have the opportunity to use my phone’s camera at work in the bathroom and the lighting is really, really unfortunate on those. Ah well.

20150114_look3-1

My New Year’s Eve makeup look. Surprisingly, I didn’t go all out of with glitter, but I’ve really been enjoying the look of a bit of the rainbow silver glitter on the lower lash line.

20150114_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Inglot Matte 334 all over the lid.
  2. Inglot Matte 325 on the outer third.
  3. Urban Decay Blackout in the outer v.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brule through the crease.
  5. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the purple/blue reflected pigment on the inner tearduct.

I applied Make Up For Ever‘s Glitter 13 to the lower lash line, then tightlined my upper and lower waterlines with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. For the upper lash line, I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper. On my lashes is Benefit‘s They’re Real mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: NYC Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Violet with Cailyn lipgloss in Basic Instinct on top

20150114_look5-1

Holy crap. Why do I even hesitate on ordering Makeup Geek products? I held off getting one of the foiled shadows because I’ve kind of been going off shiny eyeshadow. But then I bought Flamethrower on a whim and… I’m in love. And I’ve now placed an order for the entire MUG foiled line. This stuff is insane. Pictures and telling you about how wonderful it is just won’t do the product justice – you need to buy this for yourself to experience the amazingness.

20150114_look5--2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Flamethrower all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Bitten on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.

I used Tarte‘s black gel liner to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 and 52
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Lips: MAC Mystical

20150114_look1-1

I did this for a guest posting on Writing Whimsy, but wanted it on here for my own records. I used the Morphe 36 Glam palette and I had a beast of a time applying these shades. While they do look lovely, they would blend away to nothing at all so I would highly recommend using several primers, particularly one with a sticky base to help get these shadows to adhere to the lids.

20150114_look1-2

Since the Morphe shades aren’t named, please use the guide below to figure out which colours go where:

20150114_palettemap

Eyes

  1. Teal on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Blue on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Purple through the crease and used to line the lower lashline.
  4. Light pink  at the top of the crease to lightly blend out the purple.
  5. Pale peach to highlight the brow.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the green reflect shade on the inner tearduct.

I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create the winged liner and applied Benefit’sThey’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: CoverGirl Tone Rehab 2-in-1  (CC Cream) in 110 Classic Ivory
  • Bronzer: Tarte Park Avenue Princess
  • Blush: Tarte Dollface
  • Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish
  • Lips: essence Wear Berries!

20150114_look2-1

I picked up the Laura Mercier Artist palette for Eyes and Cheeks during the Sephora November VIB sale, but I haven’t played around with it much. I love the quality of the shadows, but they’re pretty bizarre colours (for me) so I don’t find myself reaching for it that often.

20150114_look2-2

Eyes
(all Laura Mercier)

  1. Crystal Beige on the lid.
  2. Cashmere in the crease.
  3. Stone Taupe in the outer corner.

Anything cat-related on the internet and I’m all over it. And when I have an internet cat on my t-shirt? It just gets even better. I grabbed some inspiration from Nyan Cat here and went with it.

20141229_look2-1

I stuck to the blue and the red since that’s what stands out to me the most in that shirt. Plus I was doing brunch… it certainly didn’t call for a full rainbow!

Eyes

  1. NYX Asphyxiation all over the lid.

  1. Shimma Shimma all over the lid.
  2. Goddess on the outer half of the lid and lightly through the crease.

20141229_look1-1

A quick look that was mostly done just to try out Benefit‘s Push Up Liner (no review forthcoming on it, but my impression of it is pretty much “meh”. It’s okay, but it’s not better than a potted gel liner with a brush.).

  1. Coquet on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Soiree on the outer half.
