Revolution Beauty Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter (Review & Swatches)

Revolution Beauty Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter
I can never get enough of ! Rainbow palettes, rainbow glitter, and rainbow highlighters – they all make my heart sing. I was recently gifted the Revolution Beauty (or is it under the I Heart Revolution brand? I *cannot* keep up with Makeup Revolution and their different brand names) Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter by a friend and was eager to give it a try.

Revolution Beauty‘s Unicorns Heart (that’s some weird spelling by the way… shouldn’t it be possessive? Unicorn’s?) is a rainbow highlighter that veers on the more pastel side of things. There’s 10 grams of product within the pan, and you’re looking at a price tag somewhere around $7-10 USD depending on where you purchase.

The packaging is very reminiscent (or really, just straight up the same) as the Too Faced cardboard heart blushes. It’s a heart-shaped cardboard box with a lift off lid. I don’t find the product is too secure in the base though – you can actually remove the pan itself as it sits on a raised flimsy plastic piece, so be careful with how you store this piece because it’ll get smacked around easily.

I had initially wanted to wear this as a straight rainbow (and tried to do so in my most recent Pride tutorial), but I found that the swatches of colour lined up side by side were far too large to use on my face as a straight highlighter unfortunately. You can see just how LARGE the swatch is in the photo above – it’s massive and I don’t have cheekbones that large! Instead I ended up opting to swirl my brush in the whole product which makes it much easier to apply… but sadly you’re losing the rainbow aspect as the shade comes out as a very cool-toned (verging on blue), icy highlighter.

On the cheeks, the Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter is incredibly reflective. A little goes a very long way, so I’d recommend using as little product as you can and building up from there. Overall, I found the tone to be quite icy and didn’t suit a makeup look unless I was wearing strictly cool-toned eyeshadows. This will not pair very well with warm-toned look (unless you’re going for a sort of mixed metals look) just because it’s SO cool-toned.

Final Thoughts

I’m a bit torn on this highlighter. On one hand you’re getting a fantastic amount of product for a low price tag. It wears and applies nicely, and the reflective quality of the highlighter is really lovely. On the other hand, for me, I find that blue-toned highlighters are some of the hardest to wear because they tend to leave a bit of an ashen sheen on my face. I don’t love that the rainbow aspect is rather unwearable as a highlighter just because the pan is so large and will leave an absolutely massive streak on your face (even if you blend out the edges). Fundamentally, I think this is best used all swirled together – so if you like the colour that way, then by all means snatch up the Unicorns Heart Rainbow Highlighter!

Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Bronzers (Review & Swatches)

Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk'r Instant Warmth Bronzers

I love bronzer. In particular, I love matte bronzers. So when I saw that Fenty Beauty was putting out a range of bronzers in a eight shades with a matte texture? I was fairly excited!

Encased in a reflective warm-bronze compact, the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzers feel quite luxurious in your hand.  Each slim compact contains 6.23 grams/0.22 ounces of product and a massive mirror. There’s no extra bulk with these bronzers, and I’m so appreciative for the slimmed down packaging.

Fenty promises a lasting bronzer with a blendable, buildable and transfer-resistant finish and texture.

I have the two lightest shades in the eight-shade launch: Inda Sun and Shady Biz. Inda Sun (on the left) is the lightest shade they make and has a neutral undertone. Shady Biz (right) is a step up and light with warm undertones.

I initially thought I would prefer Shady Biz, but I found it to be significantlywarmer and deeper than Inda Sun. Inda Sun seemed to hit that perfect line of neutral yet bronzey without being too strong in pigmentation on my skintone.

Inda Sun was easily my favourite shade between the two. I found it paired well with cool toned or warm toned looks, and was easy to apply. It’s the kind of easy bronzer I always want – I can apply a decent amount and not feel like I’m going overboard.

Shady Biz on the other hand, was a lot warmer and worked better for me with warm toned eyeshadow looks. Texture-wise, it’s lovely to apply, but the stronger pigmentation on this meant that I had to use a light hand otherwise it’d look like bronzer overkill. This one may work better for me throughout the warmer months as I deepen up, but for now my heart belongs with Inda Sun.

Final Thoughts

I’m quite enamoured by these! Heck, I even think the name “Sun Stalk’r” is a lot of fun! I definitely found I preferred the paler neutral bronzer because it worked best for my skin tone, but the application was identical between the two of them – smooth, blendable and buildable. The bronzers work equally well on top of foundation as well as on bare skin.

I’m also quite happy that the brand has eight different shades for people to choose from. Eight shades in a bronzer launch is unprecedented – at most I’ve seen 5-6 from brands before and they generally skew to the pale side of things. With eight shades that cater more towards the deeper spectrum, I really feel like Fenty has done something right with this launch of bronzers!

The Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzers can be purchased on sephora.ca for  $40 CAD each and on sephora.com for $30 USD each.

Sephora Collection Hot Line Brush Tip Liquid Liner (Review & Swatches)

Sephora Collection Hot Line Brush Tip Liquid Liner

My desire to try out ALL the brush tip liquid liners in a pen style format continues! I may love my Physicians Formula Eye Booster, but I’m still on the hunt for a truly matte formula in this style of liquid liner.

When I came across the Sephora Collection Hot Line Brush Tip Liquid Liner on Sephora’s site while browsing one day… well, I was intrigued. I was even more intrigued when one of the reviews on the site indicated that this was a MATTE liner. COULD IT BE TRUE? Could all my hopes and dreams be fulfilled by Sephora Collection? I was chomping at the bit to find out!

On initial swatch, I was sad to see a hint of a gleam to the product. You can see the sun glaring slightly off my arm swatch thus indicating that it’s not truly matte. I was disappointed, but still eager to try the liner out since I go through liquid liner frequently, and Sephora Collection‘s price point is always quite good ($18 CAD/$14 USD).

Application with this liner is pretty similar to most brush tip liquid pen liners, but I did feel that it didn’t glide as easily as other ones I’ve used frequently (Physicians Formula, ARTDECO, Too Faced). I also find that the very tip of the brush has a few too many hairs at the end (which I may end up trimming down with a pair of scissors myself). However, despite those small nitpicks, I did feel like it laid down colour very evenly and opaquely.

What shocked me was that the longer the liner was on my eyes, the more it dried down to a matte texture. Like… what?? What just happened? In the shot just above this text you can see that the liner is significantly more matte than in the previous eye shot. Yes, they’re from two different days, but the first eye shot I took the picture within 5 minutes of application, and the second one was taken 30 minutes after application. (I know there’s some sparkly bits in it, but that’s from my lid colour that transferred down because I have hooded eyes).

So my initial impression that the liner wasn’t matte was entirely accurate, as it seems to formula somehow “settles” on the eyes and goes more matte over time. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life – this is truly unique and completely unexpected.

Final Thoughts

I’m amazed really – Sephora Collection has actually, somehow, developed a brush tip liquid liner that dries down (eventually) matte. I do have some gripes with it though, and I think that’s what’s stopping me from calling this my holy grail eyeliner from hereon out. Number one, I’m not as in love with the tip of the brush as I am with my PF one – it needs just a little bit more tapering. I can work around it, but I do find it a bit of a nuisance. Number 2, the glide factor isn’t as smooth as my other ones, but I really think that comes down to the formula. It makes sense to me that a more fluid liner would have a more shiny texture, whereas a less fluid one would be more matte. I don’t know the science behind it, but in my head that makes sense.

I’ve used it for a week straight now and found that I had no issues with feathering (thank heavens!), nor did it bleed out on me when I got caught in the rain one morning on my way to work (it does claim to be waterproof, but I wouldn’t go around rubbing my eyes if I had water on them, you know?). So far, I’m REALLY liking it, but I still love my Physicians Formula slightly more just because of the ease of the fluidity of the product. If you want a matte brush tip liner though? GO TRY THIS ONE!
