MAKE UP FOR EVER has thrown their offering into the holiday palette mix: the limited edition Artistic Palette!
MAKE UP FOR EVER Artistic Palette
The palette comes encased in tin packaging which is entirely reusable. The shadows are embedded in a foam core which can be removed whenever you want and the tin reused for something else! For handiness, I’d recommend removing the shadows and sticking them in a Z-palette!
For those curious, there are three new shades in this palette: ME912 (orchid), D712 (copper) and ME614 (graphite brown).

The product featured in this post was sent to me for consideration.
Probably one of my most asked for Challenge Weeks has been for this Kat Von DMetal Matte palette! And it’s not hard to see why… this palette has gotten nothing but rave reviews as far as the eye can see!
Kat Von D Metal Matte
The Metal Matte is an ENORMOUS (seriously – the damn thing is HUGE) mix of metal crush shadows mixed with a ton of matte shades. And unlike every other brand out there, KVD makes ONE palette, makes it in the USA and does it RIGHT.
I don’t normally do a review in these posts because I feel like they’re more geared towards the looks than my thoughts, but I will give you a brief rundown: I feel like the mattes are on par with the rest of KVD’s range, although slightly less powdery (which is good). The metal shades performed well overall, but I found Tinsel to be a touch grainy and some of the shades required a different type of brush compared to what I’m used to (flat versus fluffy, depending on the job you’re doing). Watt is hands down my favourite shade in this palette, followed closely by Flash. In short? You cannot go wrong with this palette – including the fact that it has two potential transition shades AND a white and a black!
My thoughts out of the way, on with the Metal Matte looks!
I wanted to opt for an icy blue/turquoise look and go ridiculously all out with the shimmer!
Eyes
Suede through the crease.
Tinsel on the inner third of the eye.
Ignite on the middle of the lid.
Watt on the outer half of the lid.
Bone on the brow bone
I replicated that same colour placement on my lower lash line, and created the wing with Inglot’s AMC Gel Liner in 77 (Black). I applied Urban Decay Perversion mascara to my top and bottom lashes.

Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Lucky Clover with Blue Ice on top
Lips: Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Kim K.W. with Sephora gloss in Queen Bee on top
I’m a sucker when it comes to light to dark colour gradients in the same colour family, so that’s what I did with this look!
Eyes
Fringe through the crease.
Twinkle on inner third of the lid.
Silk in the middle of the lid.
Ribbon on the outer half.
Bone on the brow bone
I created the wing with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper and coated my lashed with Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara.

Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills Sassy Grape
Lips: Maybelline Violet Vixen
This was the look I created as a video tutorial featuring this palette (you can watch that here, if you’d like). Since I’m usually so stuck on same-colour gradients, I figured I should try to mix up the colours a bit. The intention was to go straight from gold to blue, but I found I had to mix some green in the middle to get the shades to blend nicely. I also wanted to replicate EXACTLY the idea of Metal/Matte, so the top lid is completely metallized, whereas the bottom lid is all matte shades. I’m not sure it translates as well as the idea did in my head, but yeah… now you know!
Eyes
Suede through the crease.
Flash on the inner third of the lid.
Watt on the center of the lid.
Nebula on the outer third of the lid.
Bone on the brow bone.
On the lower lash line, I replicated the pattern and used Feather on the inner third, Moss in the middle and Velour on the outer third. I created the wing with Too Faced’s Sketch Marker in Black and coated my lashes with Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara. I also have a pair of House of Lashes Bombshell falsies on.
Face
Primer: MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Hydrating
Foundation: Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo in 10N Cream
Bronzer: Soap & Glory Solar Powder
Blush: MAC Warm Soul
Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle
Lips: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lolita
Sooooo this is the look I like the most that I came up with out of this entire palette and I wish I had filmed it instead! Usually when I see a palette for the first time, I can envision a look right off the bat. BUT it tends to be a look I’ve already done before, so I try to steer away from that look because I feel like I’m repeating myself. Sadly, this usually means I create looks I’m not as in love with. I’m slowly learning to stick with my gut though and I’m so glad I decided to go ahead and create this look because I think it knocks the other ones out of the park! You can see me wearing this look in yesterday’s Stocking Stuffer video.
Eyes
Silk through the crease.
Flash on the lid.
Velvet on the outer half.
Bone on the brow bone.
Same as above repeated on the lower lash line! I used NARS’ Unrestricted Eyeliner Stylo in Matte Black to create the wing, applied Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara to my lashes and popped on a pair of House of Lashes Bombshell falsies.

Foundation: Illamasqua Skin Base in 6.5 mixed with Revlon Colorstay in Buff

Blush: Laura Geller Plumberry
Highlighter: MAC Whisper of Gilt
Lips: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Plath
So I tried to do something different and used a yellow in my crease instead of a traditional brown or pink. Yeah NO – do not do that, especially when you’re going to be putting purple in the outer corner! EESH! It looked okayish in the end, but it was definitely sort of also looking like a bruise!

Stone to deepen up the outer corner.
Twinkle on the inner corner.

And there we have it! I hope you enjoyed seeing the looks I came up with. Sadly, the Kat Von DMetal Matte palette is out of stock online at Sephora, but I know it’s still available in some physical Sephora locations (the further you go outside of a city, the better your chances at finding!). Let me know if you picked up the palette and whether or not you’re enjoying it!
The palette featured in this post was sent to me for consideration.
The fact that NYX continues to put out amazing, unique products in shades that challenge society continues to boggle my mind. It’s mindboggling because they’re pretty much the first brand to do it (remember the Macaron lipsticks? I swear those were the first most commercially available oddball colours), but also because people have accepted it with open arms which means they can keep producing out of this world colours for us!
NYX Liquid Suedes
The NYXLiquid Suedes are a cream lipstick with an elongated doefoot applicator. They glide on like a thicker liquid lipstick, but set to a slightly tacky matte finish. They’re not sticky, but there is a slightly tackiness to it which, for me, helps them feel more comfortable on the lips. Less like a liquid lipstick that feels like it might crack off your lipsticks, more like a solid cream that bends and gives with the shape of your lips as you talk. They are not completely transferproof when you start wearing them, but as they sink in and set over the first hour after application, they will become less and less transferable.
NYX Liquid Suedes
While the Liquid Suedes do come in a wide variety of “normal” colours (although they all pack a significant punch of colour), they also come in some truly unique/off the wall colours that I can appreciate.
NYX Liquid Suedes in Alien, Foul Mouth, Little Denim Dress and Respect The Pink – swatches
See what I mean? A black! A super deep eggplant purple! A SHOCKING BLUE!
Wearing Respect The Pink
If you’ve ever wondered if there’s a colour I feel the least comfortable in, it’s this shade of pink! Respect The Pink is a light pink with a lavender edge. It’s a beautiful colour if it’s a shade you’re drawn to, but for me I can’t help buy laugh at myself in it!
Wearing Little Denim Dress
I may feel awkward in a light pink, but I’m more than happy to sport a blue lipstick! Little Denim Dress is a beautiful shade, but you will need to wear a similarly coloured lip liner (or eyeliner!) underneath it because out of all the shades I tried, this was definitely the patchiest.
Wearing Foul Mouth
Foul Mouth is a really deep eggplant colour that sometimes looks kind of navy on me depending on the lighting. Completely opaque in one layer!
Wearing Alien
Could Alien be the be all, end all of black lipsticks?? I mean, it’s completely opaque in one swipe, there’s no patchiness and it’s comfortable to wear. Seriously… if you need a black lipstick for something – don’t go anywhere else – grab this one!
Final Thoughts
I’m really proud that an inexpensive brand like NYX continues to put out quality products in challenging colours for an incredibly reasonable price point (these’ll set you back about $10 CAD or so). I’m also really happy that these are a relatively comfortable liquid matte lipstick. There’s some give to the product while it’s on your lips that just isn’t there in the ultra dry formulas also out on the market (Colour Pop and KVD come to mind). I can press and lightly rub my lips together and not be worried about causing that HORRID sandpaper feeling!
I think the Liquid Suedes are a huge win – ESPECIALLY if you’re looking for a random, “weird” colour for a particular reason!
