The 5 Lipsticks I Wore Last Week

I feel like I’m constantly trying to show enough love to all of the lipsticks in my collection… which means it’s an ever rotating list of the ones I’ve worn every day! Here’s the latest 5 lipsticks that have been on my lips.

Cailyn - Basic Instinct
Cailyn – Basic Instinct

This is an OLD lip product that I recently dug out because I wanted something lighter and easier to wear. Something that was my lips, but better, and something that would wipe off easily when I was going out to a restaurant to eat. I got the Cailyn Art Touch Tinted Lip Gloss in Basic Instinct in an Ipsy bag a very long time ago, and I’ve used it off and on since then.

And as I said – this one is just EASY to wear. It’s comfortable and has just the right amount of gloss. Although the brand refers to this as a lip gloss… I’d never call it that. This is just a lipstick in a tube with a high shine finish. It’s definitely quite creamy and has opaque coverage. If you wanna see me applying it, I’m using it in my recent Get Ready With Me video.

Too Faced Melted Melon
Too Faced Melted Melon

Although Too Faced has long since discontinued their Melted lipstick range, I still wear them ALL the time. Melted Melon is a summertime staple for me – it’s a gorgeous vibrant coral shade that is utterly luminescent. And if you still have it in your collection – dig it back out because it’s beautiful!

Apparently I’ve not worn this lipstick shade much on camera or for the blog, because it was hard to find a picture of me wearing it. The only one I could find was a thumbnail from an old video featuring my Makeup Geek collection.

Bite Beauty - Lit Turmeric
Bite Beauty – Lit Turmeric

More of a muted peach, Bite Beauty‘s Lit Turmeric has been a great shade to pair with yellow eyeshadow looks (I’ve been wearing a lot them lately). The faded orange tones in  the lipstick make it a bit less loud of a colour on the lips, so it’s great for easy makeup days.

And what can I say about Bite‘s lipstick formula other than that it is absolutely flawless and there truly isn’t a dud in their Amuse Bouche lipstick range. I love the creamy texture, the longevity and the scent/taste of them. Hands down they are one of the best lipstick formulas on the market.

Bite Beauty Pickled Ginger
Bite Beauty Pickled Ginger

Which is why I’m talking about another one by Bite! I’d say, without fail, I wear at least one Bite lipstick a week just because they’re so good. Pickled Ginger is the shade above and it’s one of those colours that absolutely screams my name. I love anything neon coral – which is exactly what this is.

You really can’t go wrong with Pickled Ginger. I feel like it lights up my whole face!

Too Faced Disrobed
Too Faced Disrobed

Too Faced calls their Peach Kiss lipstick in Disrobed a “warm peach nude”. I pair this lipstick shade with so many different eyeshadow colours and it works so well with each of them.

It’s funny… I wouldn’t normally think the warmer tones of a lipstick like this would work with the cooler purples on my eyes… but Disrobed is really transformative. If you’re looking for an easy to wear shade to go with your bright eyeshadow colours… I’d suggest this one!

How about you? What lipstick shades have been gracing your lips lately?

The first two lipsticks mentioned were purchased by me, the remaining three were PR samples quite a long time ago. Post contains affiliate links.

What’s On My Face – Volume 39

Another makeup roundup! I had a backlog of looks I hadn’t posted yet, some even from early May. I’m surprised I had such a backlog (and there’s still about 7 more looks on my harddrive) because it feels like I haven’t been that inspired lately (aside from Clarins’ Aquatic Treasures collection, holy smokes) but it seems my memory was just rather faulty.

201507_womf39_look5-1

And we’re starting off with a BANG! This is my absolute favourite of the whole lot. Neon? Orange? Chartreuse? YES PLEASE! I wore this out briefly to a brunch during Pride and loved every second of it.

Eyes
(using the Makeup Revolution Redemption Acid Brights palette – total knockoff for theSleek Acid palette) I first applied a white base to my lid (NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk), then:

  2. Orange on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Purple shade on the outer corner and on the lower lash line.
  4. Pinky-purple through the crease.
  5. Wet n Wild Brule on the brow bone.

I used MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline to create the wing and applied Make Up For Ever‘sSmoky Stretch mascara to my lashes.

I have a bucket full of makeup that is stuff I have yet to use. Most of it is stuff from swaps, or samples from Sephora (including their 100 point perks), so every now and then I make an effort to go into it and pull out items that I REALLY should at least try before I put away into the depths of my makeup collection. The main star of this look is a L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow I picked up at a CBB swap.

201507_womf39_look4-2

Eyes

  1. L’Oreal Infallible shadow in Endless Sea all over the lid.
  2. MAC Sketch on the outer corner and through the crease.
  3. MAC Dazzlelight on the brow bone.

On my lashes is Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch.

I had always thought this lip colour (Too Faced‘s Bon Bon) was too awkwardly bright for me. That’s not to say that I don’t love bright lip colours, but this seemed to look so weird on my skin when I didn’t have a bit of a tan. I love it so much more now that I’ve got a bit of colour on my skin! Anyway, the basis for this look was that I really wanted to wear MAC‘sPetal Power blush and tried to figure out a look that would work with it. Quite pleased with the results!

Eyes
(all Makeup Geek)

  1. Peach Smoothie through the crease.
  2. Starry Eyed on the inner half of the lid.
  3. Goddess on the outer half of the lid.
  4. Cocoa Bear in the outer corner.
  5. Rapunzel on the brow bone.

I created the wing with MAC‘s Blacktrack fluidline and applied Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch to my lashes.

What’s On My Face – Volume 30

A lot more bright looks in this lot which I’m super happy about. If you notice an increase in quality of some of the pictures, it’s because I picked up an actual DSLR in December instead of using my old point and shoot camera. The reason I say “some of the pictures” is that on some days I unfortunately only have the opportunity to use my phone’s camera at work in the bathroom and the lighting is really, really unfortunate on those. Ah well.

20150114_look3-1

My New Year’s Eve makeup look. Surprisingly, I didn’t go all out of with glitter, but I’ve really been enjoying the look of a bit of the rainbow silver glitter on the lower lash line.

20150114_look3-2

Eyes

  1. Inglot Matte 334 all over the lid.
  2. Inglot Matte 325 on the outer third.
  3. Urban Decay Blackout in the outer v.
  4. Makeup Geek Creme Brule through the crease.
  5. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the purple/blue reflected pigment on the inner tearduct.

I applied Make Up For Ever‘s Glitter 13 to the lower lash line, then tightlined my upper and lower waterlines with Urban Decay‘s Black Velvet liner. For the upper lash line, I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper. On my lashes is Benefit‘s They’re Real mascara.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: NYC Fire Island Tan
  • Blush: Hourglass Diffused Heat
  • Lips: Too Faced Melted Violet with Cailyn lipgloss in Basic Instinct on top

20150114_look5-1

Holy crap. Why do I even hesitate on ordering Makeup Geek products? I held off getting one of the foiled shadows because I’ve kind of been going off shiny eyeshadow. But then I bought Flamethrower on a whim and… I’m in love. And I’ve now placed an order for the entire MUG foiled line. This stuff is insane. Pictures and telling you about how wonderful it is just won’t do the product justice – you need to buy this for yourself to experience the amazingness.

20150114_look5--2

Eyes

  1. Makeup Geek Flamethrower all over the lid.
  2. Makeup Geek Bitten on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Too Faced White Chocolate on the browbone.

I used Tarte‘s black gel liner to create the wing and applied Benefit They’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Foundation: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shades 51 and 52
  • Bronzer: Joe Fresh Sand
  • Blush: MAC Warm Soul
  • Lips: MAC Mystical

20150114_look1-1

I did this for a guest posting on Writing Whimsy, but wanted it on here for my own records. I used the Morphe 36 Glam palette and I had a beast of a time applying these shades. While they do look lovely, they would blend away to nothing at all so I would highly recommend using several primers, particularly one with a sticky base to help get these shadows to adhere to the lids.

20150114_look1-2

Since the Morphe shades aren’t named, please use the guide below to figure out which colours go where:

20150114_palettemap

Eyes

  1. Teal on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Blue on the outer half of the lid.
  3. Purple through the crease and used to line the lower lashline.
  4. Light pink  at the top of the crease to lightly blend out the purple.
  5. Pale peach to highlight the brow.
  6. Naked Cosmetics Ivory stack in the green reflect shade on the inner tearduct.

I used Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper to create the winged liner and applied Benefit’sThey’re Real mascara to my lashes.

Rest of the Face

  • Bronzer: Tarte Park Avenue Princess
  • Blush: Tarte Dollface
  • Highlighter: MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish
  • Lips: essence Wear Berries!

20150114_look2-1

I picked up the Laura Mercier Artist palette for Eyes and Cheeks during the Sephora November VIB sale, but I haven’t played around with it much. I love the quality of the shadows, but they’re pretty bizarre colours (for me) so I don’t find myself reaching for it that often.

Eyes
(all Laura Mercier)

  1. Crystal Beige on the lid.
  2. Cashmere in the crease.
  3. Stone Taupe in the outer corner.

What’s On My Face – Volume 29

A few looks from November I had kicking around (!) on my harddrive, and a few from my recent vacation in Ottawa over the holidays. Enjoy!

Anything cat-related on the internet and I’m all over it. And when I have an internet cat on my t-shirt? It just gets even better. I grabbed some inspiration from Nyan Cat here and went with it.

20141229_look2-1

I stuck to the blue and the red since that’s what stands out to me the most in that shirt. Plus I was doing brunch… it certainly didn’t call for a full rainbow!

Eyes

  1. NYX Asphyxiation all over the lid.

20141229_look1-1

A quick look that was mostly done just to try out Benefit‘s Push Up Liner (no review forthcoming on it, but my impression of it is pretty much “meh”. It’s okay, but it’s not better than a potted gel liner with a brush.).

Eyes
(all Too Faced)

  1. Coquet on the inner half of the lid.
  2. Soiree on the outer half.

What’s On My Face – Volume 28

This week’s set of looks has a bunch of glitter, some “tis the season” lips and plenty of lashes!

20141124_look2-1

An excuse to wear glitter? I’ll take it! I did this look for a sports banquet one of my soccer leagues was putting on. Love how it turned out!

I love the lid colour on this one because it’s not just pale and shimmery, it’s also got hints of pinky, purple and some gold. Makes it easy to match it with different colours.
