Skincare Saturday: Aveeno Shower Routine

Aveeno Shower Routine

This post is sponsored by iHerb.

Aveeno is always a failsafe brand for me, so it’s no surprise that their products are constantly in rotation in my bathrooms. Whether I’m using a toner, applying a moisturizer, washing my face or having a shower, it’s safe to say that Aveeno is involved *somewhere* in my routine year ’round!

Aveeno Nourish + Strengthen Shampoo and Conditioner
Aveeno Nourish + Strengthen Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ll be focusing on an Aveenospecific shower routine for today’s post so you get an idea of what products I love from them. On this particular day, I happened to have come back from running a half marathon, so I was not only weary, but also in desperate need to use products that I was supremely comfortable with (because running 21.1 kilometers is not only physically stressful, but emotionally as well!).

Sudsing up my hair with some Aveeno shampoo

After hopping in the shower and letting the hot water warm up my body and soothe the aches of running long distance, the first thing I do is soak my hair and plop on some shampoo, suds it up, rinse it out and apply some conditioner. While I don’t have fragile hair in general, I still wash my hair daily so I prefer something with a strengthener in it which is what the Aveeno Nourish + Strengthen range provides. Both the shampoo and conditioner work in tandem to make sure my hair is strong and can hold us to heat styling on the regular.

Revitalizing or soothing? You choose!
Revitalizing or soothing? You choose!

My favourite part of showering is getting super clean and scrubbing away any of the grime and sweat from my day. And of course, having run for 2+ hours, I was super salty and sweaty so I was extra desperate to get all fresh and clean. Aveeno has more than a few body washes, but I’ve been rotating between the Daily Moisturizing Body Wash and the Positively Nourishing White Peach and Ginger Body Wash. While I love the White Peach and Ginger for a revitalizing scent boost (which is especially good in the mornings!), on this day I was needing something to soothe my senses so I opted for the Moisturizing Body Wash. Both body washes lather up well with a poof and smell wonderful on my skin.

Aveeno Positively Nourishing Comforting Whipped Souffle
Aveeno Positively Nourishing Comforting Whipped Souffle

Once out of the shower, it’s time to put some moisture back in my skin that has potentially been scrubbed away. Aveeno‘s Positively Nourishing Comforting Whipped Souffle moisturizer packs a hell of a moisturizing punch for my skin. Not only does it feel great but it also sinks in quickly which means I’m not fighting to pull on my clothes after my shower. You know that feeling… super sticky greased up moisturizer skin trying to pull on pants? Yeah, it’s not fun, and thankfully there’s none of that with this one!

I ordered these Aveeno products via iHerb – both shipping and delivery were quick and efficient. They send out your order the day of! And that’s not just on products I’ve ordered via sponsored posts either – I’ve ordered products that I needed outside of posts like this and the shipping notices have gone out without hours of me placing an order. That’s easily one of the things I appreciate most about iHerb – fast shipping alongside low prices!

iHerb in particular carries over 80 Aveeno products (see some of the other ones they carry in this previous Aveeno-centric post of mine) and they can ship to over 160 countries. They also have customer support in 10 different languages as well.

If you’re a new customer to iHerb, you can get $5 off your Aveeno order of $20 or more by signing up here!

Skincare Saturday: Aveeno Haul + Favourites

This post is sponsored by iHerb.com.

Oh Aveeno – the very first brand I ever tried skincare from, and to this day it’s at the top of my most trusted brands! My skincare story with Aveeno is a long one – when I first moved to Toronto I discovered that the air was a lot more dry than Ottawa and suddenly I found myself needing a facial moisturizer.  My mom went out and bought me she had loved – the Aveeno Daily Moisturizer – and even though it’s 15 years later now, I still love the brand so very much!

This post is a combined haul featuring some of my favourite products by Aveeno, alongside some new-to-me items that I haven’t yet tried by the brand via shopping at  iHerb. Let’s dive in!

Aveeno face washes
Aveeno face washes

Although it seems excessive, I do actually use all three of these Aveeno face washes, albeit at different times throughout the week.

For day to day face cleansing, I usually opt for the Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser – it’s a thicker face wash that looks like a soft shimmery golden gel when you pump some on to your hand.

If I need something because I’m getting a hint of a breakout, or if I really just want to switch it up to a more foamy wash, I’ll switch to the Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser. I’m pretty sure this is the exact same formula I used in my late teens/early twenties and I still appreciate just how light and fluffy it feels on my face.

To exfoliate my face once or twice a week, I’ll opt for the Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub. I realize it says daily scrub, but for me I don’t generally want to use something abrasive on my face every day so I space it out a bit during the week. The granules suspended within the formula are very fine and yet granular enough to help slough off dead skin.

Aveeno moisturizers have never steered me wrong!
Aveeno moisturizers have never steered me wrong!

Ah yes – my old faithfuls! I’ve been using these two moisturizers since (what feels like) the dawn of time. The Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer is my absolute FAVOURITE product that Aveeno makes. It used to be that Aveeno didn’t make moisturizer with sunscreen in it (which is how I prefer it), but at this point, this is the *only* remaining moisturizer sans SPF that they make. For me, I prefer to apply my own additional sunscreen if I’m going to be out in the sun, so for day to day wear, I always try to hunt down this particular moisturizer. And yes, this works just as well to hydrate my 34 year old skin as it did back when I was 19!

If you’re looking for SPF to be built into your moisturizer (as I do on days I know I’m going to be out in the sun), then every other Aveeno moisturizer has you covered. The one I’ve opted for has a higher SPF (30 versus the 15 you can sometimes get). Due to the sunscreen, the Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer will have a bit of that sunscreen smell, but it’s masked well by Aveeno‘s regular skincare scent (which I really, really love). Rest assured that this sinks in fast and feels incredibly lightweight. I’ve even used it in a pinch on my arms while on vacation in Florida and it worked wonders – extremely lightweight, and kept my protected from the sun!

New to me: Aveeno's tinted moisturizer!
New to me: Aveeno’s tinted moisturizer!

On to the items I haven’t tried out yet but can’t wait to! I decided I wanted to try out the Positively Radiant CC Cream in Fair to Light (also contains 30 SPF) – I’m anticipating this to feel exactly the same as the previously mentioned sunscreen, but with a hint of coverage. As you can see from the swatch, the fair to light shade does lean a bit warm, and was a bit darker than I expected. I think if you’re a MAC NW20 and up, you’ll be fine to wear it, but you may struggle if you’re paler than that.

These two are also ones I hadn’t tried before this sponsored purchase, but was definitely eager to try!

I’m always willing to see how a brand’s makeup removing wipes will perform, so I plunked the Aveeno ones in my cart right away. (Not tried them out yet, but will report back in one of my upcoming Empties videos!)

And the item I hadn’t tried, but dug into IMMEDIATELY once I got it was the Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads. I was sooo curious about this enormous tub! As it turns out, the tub contains 28 self-foaming dual-textured pads.  It’s essentially pre-soaked cotton rounds that contain a facial cleanser. The pads are so large and lather so well that I would suggest you cut them in half because you really don’t need a whole one to clean your face with, so you might as well save yourself some money. The pad lathered up well on my face and rinsed off easily when I was done. I liked that there’s a slightly more abrasive side so you can really dig into your pores if you need to. This one was an enormous winner for me and would be great to bring if you’re going camping and need something quick and easy to wash your face with.

If you’ve read some of my iHerb.com posts before, you know the deal. However, if you’re new to them, it’s definitely worth repeating: they sell over 35,000 products and ship to over 160 countries.  And? Their shipping is INCREDIBLY cheap, even to Canada! For an order around $60, the shipping cost is coming out to about $9 CAD and that includes pre-paid duties when you choose to ship via DHL. You also have the option to choose $0 shipping, but you do run the risk of getting hit by Canadian customs when it clears the border. As a Canadian, I cannot STAND paying exorbitant shipping fees and iHerb ensures that I don’t. iHerb.com is also a Google trusted store and their Customer Service team can provide support in 10 different languages.

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner & Purifying Body Wash

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner and Purifying Body Wash in Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal

I’ve been a fan of Aveeno skincare for so long that I’m honestly starting to wonder if I’m ever going to find a dud product by them. (And nope, this isn’t a post where I find a bad apple either!) As we dive into the cooler months, I’m all for trying out new products, so I was more than happy to test out some new-to-me Aveeno products!

Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner
Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo + Conditioner

The Aveeno Pure Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate-free (and yet the shampoo still lathers up which I really appreciate) and are infused with seaweed extract. The seaweed extract is there to help cleanse your hair without over-drying it. And as far as shampoos and conditioners go, I was happy with this which is really all I’m looking for in my shampoo and conditioner. My number one complaint with any hair product is that if it weighs it down, I’m not going to like it, and this definitely did not do that. My hair was smooth and soft after use and it didn’t feel weighed down. I also enjoy the clean, fresh, slightly green scent of both products.

AND… I love the shape of the bottle. I can turn them upsidedown without having to worry about them toppling over in the shower. I know it’s a small detail, but that makes me a really, really happy camper when I’m in shower!

Thumbs up for both of these!

Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal
Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with Sea Kelp + Nourishing Oatmeal

The Aveeno Purifying Body Wash with sea kelp and nourishing oatmeal is yet another body wash to add to my list of favourites that Aveeno creates (their Skin Relief is my number one favourite body wash EVER). The intent with this particular body wash is that it combines ingredients from the land and sea to flush away impurities. Like the Pure Renewal shampoo and conditioner, this body wash has a faintly green aquatic scent that is definitely unisex. The scent is refreshing in the morning when I’m trying to wake myself up from the previous night’s slumber!

So there we have it… Aveeno has once again failed to produce a less than stellar product! Seriously guys… I’ve been in love with this brand for so long that I really don’t think I’ll ever find a bad product by them! 😉

The products featured in this post were sent to me for consideration.

Skincare Saturday: Aveeno Fresh Essentials

Aveeno Fresh Essentials

Falling in love with Aveeno products comes very naturally to me. I’ve been using them since I was 19 years old and there really hasn’t been much in the line that I haven’t loved. That a damn good track record for a brand I’ve been using for 14 years!

Aveeno‘s Fresh Essentials (Smart Essentials in the US!) line breathed some life into the brand that’s had fairly standard oatmeal and green packaging for several years now. The Fresh Essentials line has beautiful orange and yellow packaging on their usual oatmeal coloured bottles. But, the difference between this line and their staple line is that the Fresh Essentials boasts southernwood as a natural antioxidant which is used in products to help fortify your skin’s moisture barrier (in Googling it, I also found that southernwood is related to wormwood and has been used to ward off insects long ago!).

Aveeno Fresh Essentials - Daily Exfoliating Scrub
Aveeno Fresh Essentials – Daily Exfoliating Scrub

I’m always a little nervous about products labelled as a “daily exfoliator” because I really don’t want to be rubbing off the top layer of my skin every single day (or at least that’s how it feels to me!). However, the Daily Exfoliating Scrub is very, VERY gentle. The little scrubby parts are incredibly small. Not to the point where you can’t feel them doing their job, because you definitely can, but small enough so that it doesn’t feel like you’re using a harsh abrasive on your skin. It also contains natural luffa and coconut pulp to help remove dirt and makeup from your pores. I love using this in the morning because the scent perks me up in the shower!

Aveeno Fresh Essentials - Daily Nourishing Moisturizer
Aveeno Fresh Essentials – Daily Nourishing Moisturizer

The Daily Nourishing Moisturizer is your average oil-free daily moisturizer (shocking! lol). As with all of my other Aveeno moisturizers, I love the texture, feel and scent of the product. I also especially love the pump that this bottle comes with, although be aware that it does pump out an awful lot of product. I really only need about half a pump to cover my entire face and neck. My only gripe with this, and I don’t know how it’ll actually be since it’s not the summer yet, but I struggle a little bit with moisturizers that have sunscreen in them getting into my eyes on days when I’m playing soccer outside in the heat. I’ve had this issue with other Aveeno moisturizers in the past, so I’m curious to see how this will work for me throughout the summer. That’s a fairly small gripe though because I really do love how gentle and hydrating this feels on my skin!

Aveeno Fresh Essentials - Hydrating Night Cream
Aveeno Fresh Essentials – Hydrating Night Cream

The Hydrating Night Cream is, as expected, the thickest formula out of the two moisturizers. It’s an oil-free cream that’s intended to be used at night so that your skin can replenish the natural moisture barrier while you sleep. (I’ve had this kind of use pointed at me before at skincare seminars… that your skin’s resistance goes down at night while you’re sleeping, so it’s easier for the product to sink in and do its job.) Although I’m not a consistent night time moisturizer, on days when I’ve felt especially dry, I’ve applied this before bed and let it sink in while I watch Netflix. It doesn’t sink in immediately because it’s quite rich, but it’s also not going to be gumming up your face several hours either.

Final Thoughts

As a newbie to the Fresh Essentials line by Aveeno, I’m sold. I may actually start using this line instead of my usual product from their regular range because I prefer the scent on these a little bit more. (For those concerned about scent, I don’t find it intrusive just kind of… peacefully there.) I’m really happy that a brand I’ve loved for so long continues to make amazing products I inevitably end up loving. It’s comforting, you know? 🙂

The Aveeno Fresh/Smart Essentials line can be purchased on ulta.com ranging from $7.99 to 16.99 USD.

What I Bought This Month – February 2016 Haul

Monthly haul time! Enjoy. 🙂

Inglot - Duraline ($18 CAD)
Inglot – Duraline ($18 CAD)

Let’s start off with the only item I actually BOUGHT this month! Inglot‘s Duraline was a must have for me since my Inglot red gel liner turned gloppy on me. Duraline will soften up gel liners that have gone a little bit stale (or any other cream product). I’ve put off buying it for a while now, but when my red gel liner died, I knew it was time to invest. 🙂

So, that may have been the only item I bought this month, but I am very, very lucky to have a ton of beauty blogging friend in Toronto and we do swaps every few months. It gives me a chance to get rid of product that don’t work for me, and pick up ones that could potentially be love at first sight. So here’s the goodies I got from a swap:

Inglot - empty palettes
Inglot – empty palettes

I realize these are empty Inglot palettes, but I am SO excited for that! I love Inglot‘s system of palettes, and I think the packaging is beautiful, but it annoys me to buy packaging every time I go to buy shadows. Now I’ve got three empty palettes I can fill with beautiful colours!

I love... Coconut & Cream
I love… Coconut & Cream

I do not need shower gel. At all. And yet, I always grab for it when I see it at a swap. Why? Maybe because I always considered shower gel as so unnecessarily expensive in stores that I really don’t want to pay for it again any time soon. I love shower gel, and this smells wonderful, but it’s gone to the back of my “to use” pile of shower gels. I’m sure I’ll get to it… at some point. lol

Josie Maran - Argan Infinity Creamy Lip & Cheek Oil in Limitless Pink
Josie Maran – Argan Infinity Creamy Lip & Cheek Oil in Limitless Pink

One of my favourite YouTubers (StrwberrySweet – mostly does Project Pans) panned one of these Josie Maran Argan Infinity Creamy Lip & Cheek Oil relatively recently, and I wanted to see what they were all about. My initial reaction is that I’m not super keen on the scent of them, but that it wore well and looked good!

Boscia - Intensifying Moisture Pack
Boscia – Intensifying Moisture Pack

This Boscia Intensifying Moisture Pack + is sitting in my medicine cabinet and while I’m writing this up I realize I haven’t even got a clue as to whether this is a facial cleanser or a moisturizer. Heh.

Benefit Air Patrol
Benefit Air Patrol

I’ve harped on about my problems with eyeshadow primers before so I won’t bore you with the details other than to say I love trying new ones. Benefit‘s Air Patrol is adorable looking and I’m excited to see how this one holds up!

Aveenon Fresh Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer
Aveeno Fresh Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer

I love Aveeno‘s skincare products and I’ve been using them for the last… 14 years. Eek. Anyway, I haven’t tried out their Fresh Essentials range so I’m looking forward to using this one.

Vitabath - Sweet Pink Peppermint
Vitabath – Sweet Pink Peppermint

More shower gel! I got sucked in by the scent of Vitabath‘s Sweet Pink Peppermint – it’s more of a Christmasy scent, so I’ll probably bust it out in November.

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter
The Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter

MWAHAHAHAH!!!!! The Body Shop‘s Satsuma scent has been one of my favourite scents throughout my entire life and yet… my husband doesn’t like the scent of it. I haven’t repurchased it since I used my last big tub up of the body butter… but now I have another one. 😀

NYC Liquid Liner
NYC Liquid Liner

NYC‘s Liquid Liner has been touted as one of the best matte black liquid liners at the drugstore and I hadn’t gotten around to picking it up! Initial reaction: DEFINITELY matte, DEFINITELY black… but I’m not in love with the way the tip of the brush is cut. Hmmm… maybe I’ll just cut it myself.

Misslyn nail polish in 756
Misslyn nail polish in 756

No one wanted this Misslyn nail polish in 756… which was great for me since I wear this kind of silver disco polish on my toenails 24/7 so picked this one up since I’ve never tried a Misslyn polish before.

B Kamins Laboratories
B Kamins Laboratories

I know NOTHING about this B Kamins brand… but the body lotion says “Maple” on it. It, however, smells nothing like maple, so I was totally duped. 😐

BH Cosmetics - Galaxy Chic
BH Cosmetics – Galaxy Chic

/GASP

BH Cosmetics - Galaxy Chic
BH Cosmetics – Galaxy Chic

I couldn’t believe someone brought this to the swap. I had lusted over this Galaxy Chic palette years ago when BH Cosmetics released it, but never bought it because like everything else in the makeup world… you become so inundated with products you end up buying some, and not others. The colours, the marbling, the names of the colours… everything about this palette makes me so, SO happy. I’ve used it twice now and love the shadows. Not a matte in sight though, so it’s not a standalone palette.

Maybelline Lash Sensational
Maybelline Lash Sensational

A new mascara for me to try out: The Maybelline Lash Sensational. I’ve still got a lot of mascara left in my currently opened tubes, so it’ll be a while before I bust into this one.

Etude House Vivid Popstick
Etude House Vivid Popstick

I’m not too familiar with Etude House‘s makeup, so I was excited to see a few items by them. This is essentially one of those matte lipstick crayons. I like it, but I don’t love it.

Etude House - Color Lipsfit
Etude House – Color Lipsfit

Not tried this one yet… this is by Etude House as well and I think it’s just for lips.. but may be for cheeks as well. It’s still sitting in my “To Use” pile!

Coloured Raine - Electric Raine
Coloured Raine – Electric Raine

Oh wow. Okay… I had heard about Coloured Rained via NikkieTutorials on YouTube, but never bought any. BUT THIS IS AMAZING! IT’s nowhere near as drying as the Colour Pop liquid lipsticks – instead this one is so much more comfortable on me lips. I may need more…

Clip - Lipnicure in Trouble Peach
Clip – Lipnicure in Trouble Peach

Unfortunately, Clio‘s Lipnicure was a straight “into the garbage” item. It applied patchily and then just really poorly. To the point where I removed it mid-day at work and it was a disaster to remove. I threw it straight into the trash. 🙁

Too Faced La Creme in Loganberry
Too Faced La Creme in Loganberry

This one astonished me. Too Faced‘s Loganberry La Creme lipstick was discontinued about a year ago and I was never able to get my hands on it. Imagine my surprise that someone would want to get rid of it! YESSSS!

THEFACESHOP - Face Mask Aloe
THEFACESHOP – Face Mask Aloe

A face mask via THEFACESHOP. This’ll be my first time using anything by THEFACESHOP.

Annabelle Brow-To-Go
Annabelle Brow-To-Go

A brow kit from Annabelle that has turned out to be wayyy too dark for me, but it has worked when I need to darken up my eyebrows to look more like someone else (see my The 100 Wanheda/Clarke tutorial).

Annabelle Brow Show
Annabelle Brow Show

Another Annabelle brow product! Brow Show is light enough for me so this has actually been working out and it’s really easy to use. Not enjoying the huge size of the pencil, but the product is nice!

And we’re done! I’m doing pretty well conserving my money for IMATS New York, and these swaps are definitely helping me to keep products rotating in and out of my collection1
