Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Lost Cherry (Review, Swatch & Look)

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

Ever since their launch several months ago, I’ve lusted over the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks. My husband was super sweet and got me one for Christmas!

At $38 CAD ($32 USD) a pop, this is quite possibly the most expensive lipstick in my collection (I… think!). The packaging is solid all around though – the lipstick is encased in a solid rosegold tube that has weight to it. This feels like a luxury item, which I super appreciate considering the price tag associated with it! The formula has a nice marshmallowy-vanilla scent, but no discernible taste.

One of the more intriguing things about the Matte Revolution lipsticks is that they come shaped into a really bizarre bullet. It’s basically a square tip, and I wasn’t really sure how that would work for application. (As it turns out, I basically just twist the bullet to match whichever direction I’m applying the lipstick in and it goes on just fine.)

The formula is very comfortable to wear and not overly drying, which is always great news for a matte formula. It’s more of that newer matte formula that a lot of brands are coming out with lately; has a slight gel consistency during application, but feels and looks like a soft matte formula.

The colour I opted for was Lost Cherry because it was the closest shade that they had to something really, really vibrant while sticking to a colour family that I really enjoy (coral-ish, red-pink). Oddly, the Charlotte Tilbury site lists this as “a pop of pastel fuchsia”. I definitely don’t see pastel nor fuchsia (isn’t fuchsia more purple??).

Although CT’s description is not how I would describe the shade, I still really, really love Lost Cherry. It’s beautifully pigmented and a shade and finish that I love to wear.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for something luxurious in a lipstick for yourself or as a gift for someone, you really can’t go wrong with the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolutions. They are super comfortable to wear and the pigmentation is on point. The packaging and presentation are also stellar, so you really do feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. Due to the price tag though, I’d suggest going for a shade you really, really love and one you know you’ll get a lot of use out of. Too often I find people buy an expensive lipstick in a shade they wouldn’t traditionally wear because they want that lipstick to be extra special. Heck no man! Buy it in a shade you know you’ll love, because then you’ll get your money’s worth!

  1. WHAT?! I wouldn’t list this as a pop of pastel fuschia at all… More like a pinky-red. I agree with you on buying a shade that you will adore. I used to buy fancy lipsticks in outrageous shades and would then never wear them! Now I buy them in more wearable shades so that I get a kick out of using them.

    1. I know right? I was like “okay let’s see what her web site says”. Then I read it and I was like… did I get the name wrong? Or what? I understand that it’s a chic line and maybe using “fluorescent red-pink” might scare the crap out of their customers, but come on… that isn’t a pastel shade in ANYONE’S book. LOL!

And yay, glad you agree! I too used to buy weird colours (for me anyway) and then never use them. And I was like… what is the point of this???

  2. urm. not at all pastel fuchsia. that’s ridiculous. but this shade is gorgeous. I’d be curious about a comparison to that MAC lipstick you love and your BITE custom because it does seem like same family to me which is always super gorgeous on you. There are definitely a few shades on my wishlist! i made that mistake the first time i bought a high end lipstick going for a ‘special’ colour. now just buy all the dusty rose shades!

    1. You know… you’re bang on (and holy hell that’s quite a memory you have there!), because I think Relentlessly Red and my BITE custom are incredibly close to this shade (although I haven’t swatched them all together).

      Hahah dusty rose 4 lyf!

  3. I really want a Charlotte Tilbury lipstick but I find the clerks at their booth at Holts are totally disinterested in me. It’s a bit annoying. I was trying to find one of their lip glosses and it was sold out (but was part of the permanent collection) and it was like pulling teeth to get information from them. “It’s sold out” “Ok, is it coming back?” “Well yeah, it’s a regular item.” “Do you know when?” “No.” “Do you have a restock coming up soon?” “Yes” “Can you CALL ME?” “No.”
Like, it shouldn’t be THAT HARD. They didn’t even offer me one of those sheets where you can write down all the products you want. I felt really invisible.

    But they are so pretttyyy.

    1. I really cannot be bothered with store reps. I hate when they try to talk to me no matter what makeup store I’m in. MAC, Sephora, whatever… stay away from me!!! Your experience sounds seriously unfriendly though. Like what the hell chick? You’re job is to SELL PRODUCT! I’ll never understand why they have a snootier than thou attitude.

And this is why I love online shopping. I ain’t got time for rudeness!

  4. I had a similar experience at Holts trying to buy one of her lipsticks. I swatched some on the back of my hand to pick the colour I wanted and the lady gave me a really dirty look. So Ieft and the next week I ordered some Burberry lipsticks on line!
I use to buy fancy perfume for “special occasions” but then I realised I am never going to use it all up so then I started wearing my fav perfumes every day– and guess what? The bottle is nowhere near empty.

    1. Oh man, I’ve had my eye on Red Carpet Red. Question for you though… and I know I’m already prone to this… but is your lipstick moving in the base? Like when you apply it, does the bullet press against the side of the packaging and cause a dent on the bullet? I’m worried I’m breaking mine already. 🙁

    1. You know… when I pick up a shade like this I’m always like “I bet Jen would want it too!”. Totally with you on bright coral pink – that’s how I see it!

  5. I’m a huge fan of CT products, I need to get my hands on her matte lipsticks and Light Wonder foundation! I hear the foundation will change my life….not sure how but obviously I ‘m going to try it out and decide for myself. I’m not a huge fan of her skin care line though….any product that uses the word MAGIC I tend to stay away from it.
