How Many Shots Does It Take?

howmanyshotsdoesittake

I’m always fascinated (and sometimes annoyed) by just how many pictures it takes to get the perfect one. We always like to portray ourselves in pictures how we want others to see us. Whether it’s making sure you’re showing the world your best angle, or chopping off a few extra pounds by zooming in the picture a bit – there’s always something we’re trying to convey in the pictures we post online.

Having logged well over 100 different makeup lookI’ve done on myself that were suitable for posting on this blog since its inception this past October, I’ve learned  just how many photos it takes to get the right one. And for me, that number seems to be somewhere between 30 and 50. (And if it hits over 100…. /shudder)

So in order to get these three shots:

I’ve gone through all of these to find the least blurry, the best angle, the right “this is how I felt at this moment in time” photo that I possibly could.

And then chopped them all down in an attempt to make it look like I’m not standing in front of my badly lit bathroom mirror or in my bedroom at the crack of dawn before work!

So, tell me! How many pictures does it take you before you get one that you think is suitable enough?

P.S. If you actually want to know what’s on my face in the shots above, the full product listing can be found in this recent post: What’s On My Face – Volume 19.

  1. Omg I freaking love this! Lololol
    The struggle!
Whenever someone’s taking photos for me they’re like “ok I took about a dozen should be good”

Me: “no no no, take a few more..”

You nailed it! 30ish is normally a sweet spot but I’m trying to lower it since my storage is always 100% full of photos lol

    1. haha! A dozen is never enough! If my husband takes photos he’s like “okay, I did three, we’re good.” I’m like “oh hell no buddy, take forty and then I’ll decide if we’re done!”

I often even have to tell myself to take more photos. Sometimes it’s impossible to tell if something is actually in focus on the viewfinder and I’m like… “well ten more shots should at least cover me if nothing else was in focus…”

  2. I’m so glad it isn’t just me!! I’ve taken so many pictures this week and none of them have turned out… The struggle is real.

Ps. Your hair is amazing and you look gorgeous in every shot!

    1. lol why thank you! But sometimes you know it’s like “how do I hide this chin angle I don’t like?” or… “I hate the way that curl is placed…” GOD IT NEVER ENDS!

  3. I love the series of photos. Esp the one where you take a couple and realize it’s way too dark in that room and switch to another room. I am constantly doing that.

I also take my photos before work. The florescent lights at work is gross for taking makeup shots and by the time I get home…. sweaty mess.

Thanks for reminding us that our perfect-seeming photos take dozens of shots to capture.

    1. Hah! YES! I used to take awkward shots in the bathroom at work and just finally gave up on that and try to do it at home in the mornings now before work. I don’t always have the time, but it’s much better than the nasty lights at work!
